Re: auto/manual ecu

Less torque in reverse. Switch under the gear shift. I bet you guessed that.

Re: auto/manual ecu

Can't resist. Same ECU is used in both manual and automatic. Ignore the switches under the selector, my mod controls torque in a different way.

Re: ECU Modification

It obviously is hard to distill the actual situation of possibilities and prices from this thread and others. This causes a lot of unnecessary correspondence. So to correct my post from Nov.11th 2010 and in addition to the one above: 1- Two-board ECU € 120,-- 2- One-board ECU € 200,-- Both with rese...

Re: Orange Richmod

All this fuzz about a red mark on one of the screws...It is present on most of the EZ210Ks and if it is not there probably the guy from Bosch ran out of paint or had a day off. Or the ECU has been tampered with, may be by some modder... The only way you can tell you have some way of mod inside is by...

Re: Orange Richmod

In order to get things right... The Turbo has three Electronic Control Units, the EZ210K which handles ignition and turbo, the Jetronic which is mainly responsible for the injection and the CEM for all the electrical goodies. The first two are where we are talking about here. They do not per sé have...

Fingers (wash first!) under the complete needle, pull and at the same time turn anti clockwise. Ignore the protest, be brave.

Re: Orange Richmod

Be aware that firstly they make the ECU ignore any indication of the real turbo pressure on which it determines the ignition timing and by the connection with the Jetronic the injection timing and secondly they make you buy a different boost control. This procedure overrules the build-in safety prot...

Try this: http://volvo480.spreadshirt.fr/
You may find umbrellas there. I know they sell strings with "Turbopower Roboumod" on it. Don't ask me how come.

You obviously got the message. Just have it machined, do not do it by hand.

Re: Clutch for a '93 turbo

A flywheel gets worn by the clutch plate, like a brake disc by the pads. If you use a clutch plate with different diameter the surface of the flywheel should be flattened to eliminate the traces of the former clutch plate in order to have overall contact. Maybe someone can translate this into the ri...

Re: Is the starter motor different on early 480's?

There is no difference between diameter and number of teeth between old and new flywheels. Starter motors come in two types though. The newer, Valeo I believe, are a little smaller as well as stronger. Their strong permanent magnets caused a fault code from the newer CEMs, something you do not have ...

Check this out: http://www.volvo480forum.com/index.php/topic,13721.0.html and use Google translate. A personal addition to how to remove the needle: Grap it under the hood and turn it anti-clockwise while lifting. Be brave, it will work. And when the frontplate is glued remove it with the blade of a...

Re: 1991 Turbo ignition problems

Even more confusing, there should not be a spark when just turning on the ignition. Under certain conditions this might ignite the mixture and start the engine spontaneously. A simple explanation: The coil has two connections, one is permanently connected to +12V when the ignition is switched on, th...

Re: 1991 Turbo ignition problems

You claim getting a nice spark on the plugs, on the other hand having no ignition. This is quite confusing, if you found out about the "nice spark" by manipulating the coil while connected to the ignition module you may very well have blown it by the sparks you invoked. If so, also a transistor in t...

Re: Dashboard Bulbs

The original 3 larger bulbs are 3W, not 5W. LEDs do not flicker due to too low a voltage. The rheostat is an electronic device, not a variable resistor, the diagram shows it with a transistor symbol. It sends a pulse train to the bulbs with a variable width. The bulbs with a filament will not show t...

Re: Clutch for a '93 turbo

As far as I know the original Volvo clutch is still available in many countries. It has the advantage of strong springs, next to racing. The disadvantage is the plate, which is very hard (to make it live longer), but as consequence has a poor grip. A Clio 182 or Megane 2.0 16 V fase 1 plate will do ...

Re: Throttle cable electric connector?

In the early days a switch connected to the throttle cable at WOT made the windshield wipers, if active, run full speed, switched off the AC for more power and may be some gimmicks more. The car revving highly could be some byproduct of your mechanic's doing.

Re: Replcing maf

The MAFs are originally fabricated in Spain, I am familiar with the seller, suppose he bought a lot from the manufacturer. I found the site quite confusing, the same object for different prices if I remember well. Anyway, just try it, you can not damage anything in the Jetronic. Remember, there is x...

Re: Replcing maf

You would clear up things by telling what number the unit has you want to replace.
Then you bought an equivalent to Bosch xxxx021 you say, Chinese?
And why your interest in this resistance stuff, is it not working?
Pin 3 is supposed to be the output to the Jetronic by the way.
