Classic status will undoubtedly come for our cars, but you just need to be patient. Most people don't count cars as classics until they are 25 years old, and the 480 if fairly modern for it's age. I'm satisfied to know that I know this, and let others find out when they're really hard to get. You ca...

Slightly off topic I know, but... Can anyone confirm the designed behaviour of the alarm system is that if: 1. The windows are down. 2. You lock the car with the key and arm the alarm. 3. You then lean in through and open window to and try to open a door. 4. The door will unlock and open, but the al...

I love my 480 to bits, but I don't particularly want them to become too popular as this would drive secondhand prices up and make sourcing bits from scrapyards even harder than it is at present. I'm all for encouraging those who already have a love for these very special and different cars, but why ...

Just got a new wheel and tyre package with Uniroyal Rallye 550 tyres 195/50/R15. Seem to get good reviews for both wet and dry performance, are fairly quiet and don't cost the earth. I couldn't decide whether to get to 50s or the 55s with my wheels 'cos the size listed in the manual for 15" wheels i...

I've tried to contact "Cars of the Stars" at Ingliston a few times now with no joy :-( Even had a look round there on a Sunday afternoon when I was dropping my sister off at the airport and there was no life about the place - don't know what to make of it. :? Noon seems as good a time as any to meet...

Hmmm... Describing the characteristics of a car is really hard to do in words. :? Mine's a 2.0 ES. Power wise it's nice and smooth delivery although it really has to be 3000 RPM + to move quick. Still not sure if everything is just right as I had expected a bit more from a 2.0. The gear linkgage is ...

Surely if the other driver is admitting responsibility the claim is on his insurance. Regardless of who was driving your car the fault his still his.

Hope it all woks out for you.

When I got my 480 the speedo etc. wasn't working and the car wasn't running well at all (occasional misses and low power). I traced the fault to a break in the lead from the speed sensor to the speedo head AND a faulty speedo head. The speedo head converts the signal from the sensor into a digital p...

Surely unless the ball joints on your link rods are f'ed new ones won't make any difference - any car I've had lets you know when they need done by a characteristic knocking when going over bumps or cornering. Has anyone ever heard of an after-market anti-roll bar for the 480? Eibach don't seem to d...

Was the engine hot when you took the photos Martin?

My oil pressure from cold reads very high on 3000 - 4000 RPM but drops significantly once the engine has got up to temp.

L reg 480 ES 2.0i - BCA Edinburgh

Just spotted this when I was picking my sister up from Edinburgh airport. Round at http://www.british-car-auctions.co.uk/main.asp?page=60 It's come from Reg Vardy so is probably a trade in allegedly with 35,000 warranteed miles on the clock although from the state of the seats and steering wheel thi...

Tonight I put on a new set of wheels, 195/50 R15 ET37 OZ alloys and they are just rubbing somewhere on full lock - haven't had a chance to check where as it's dark. A bit surprising as 15x6.0e40 with 195 tyres seems to be an OEM fitment. Must be because my wheels are 7" wide? Anyway, there isn't tha...
