To update this, I replaced the headunit and the problem seems to have gone. I got a Pioneer DEH9200, I think, to replace my old Sony. I guess the Sony was up to powering the standard Volvo set up, but not a set of JBLs. I now want to wire up my amp and sub, but don't really know where to start with ...

Pol,
having acquired your old induction kit, did you find a tangible difference due to the hot air being breathed?

Black 480 in Turners Hill, Sussex, Friday evening...

...being driven by a gorgeous brunette.

She smiled at me (well, I assume it was me and not the car...) when I flashed at her.

Hope to see you again soon!

Best laugh I've had all week these!! (Apart from the Cauliflower bit...) Again non-480 related, but I went underneath to change the oil filter on my Matra (mid-engined car) with the engine cover on. Fitted new filter started it up, semi-synth spurting out all over the drive! Got back underneath, put...

Well... Mine idles smoothly at 1000rpm. Has never failed to start. Boosts incorrectly at 15psi, mwuhahahaha! Returns 34mpg average, which I'm more than happy with. No reverse noises. No idea about error codes. No clutch slip, even at 15psi in 3rd. No petrol smell. No fluid leaks anywhere. Off for a ...

Very impressive VdG. I get that just after I fill up, but a few miles later it is back down in the 30s. To my mind, it makes no sense to go for a n/a 2 litre. The turbo can be almost as economical and definitely faster. I also can't see why they are more problematic than the n/a cars. It isn't a ver...

I suspect its more due to people swapping them for turbos.

Hi and welcome. Before I chipped/decatted and MBCd my turbo, I could easily get an average of 34mpg, driven sensibly. I struggle to get 30 now, but there are other benefits... I got a 1994 turbo and it has been very reliable, so far. The main issues seem to be electrical or water ingress related. I ...

Pardon? Hoho. Thanks for all your replies. I think I may have solved the crackling problem. These speakers have rotating tweeters and I think I'd rotated it such that it touched the speaker cover. I have tried swapping the wires round as I'm fully aware of the effect of phasing. The drivers speaker ...

help wanted by an ICE numpty

I'm really quite thick when it comes to ICE, so any help gratefully recieved. I recently replaced the front speakers of my 480 with some JBL GTO527s, as recommended by a couple of people on this site. The original speakers were working fine, but distorted at loud volumes and then I broke one whilst ...

I can send you my orange ecu if you like. It worked OK in my (1994) car, but wouldn't take much boost increase.

It's a 1.7 5 speed.
As I said, the mileometer says 33K miles, with a leading 0, and knowing the guy, I can quite believe it.

No idea about price, but I can ask.
