Re: £5k for a really rough 'film prop' 480
Clearly this car is not worth £5000. However, I'm not sure the Benefit in emailing him to say it's only worth £500! Surely it has to be worth more than £500..... Scrap value is around £200/300. ri We have to believe cars like this are worth being alive thus worth more otherwise sellers want bother ...

Re: £5k for a really rough 'film prop' 480
Selling my old Turbo Cracked windscreen, leaks, doesn't run but still looks good at a glance... Looking around £45,000 or nearest offer. :hopping: Aye, but what films has it been in? "Not Gone with the Wind", "Doesn'TRON", "Ice Cold in Alex", "Gladiator part deux - The Return Valve of the non-nativ...

Re: £5k for a really rough 'film prop' 480
Haha, it does make you wonder what planet some folks are on... I've posted a question to the seller on eBay.. just for shits and giggles, of course ;) Hello there, Did you make an error with the price? A £5k car would be pristine, full history, undergone restoration, photographed properly described ...

Re: White Auto on C&C auctions
I thought it looked a bit damp, with the instrument binnacle all steamed up - then I saw the photo with the paddling pool installed in the footwell  What a shame! Excellent range of good clear photos on the C&C website - they haven't shirked the challenge there, to be fair. I do hope it goes to...

Re: Rescue Car: R4 - our first turbo rescue !
Look at those arches! :D Jealous green-eyed monster alert in Lancashire!# What a fabulous find. My first 480 was a white ES, 1991, with white bumpers and low miles. I've always loved the colour (or lack of it I guess). Not sure I could cope with a turbo these days mind - most motoring I've had for a...

Re: Replacing cracked windscreen
Done this a couple of times in recent years - it is worth checking out specialist local suppliers, who are more often than not willing to order one in and fit it carefully than the national chains.
From memory it was around a couple of hundred pounds, but well spent!
Good luck!

Happy New Year to all wedgie enthusiasts across the country, and to our neighbours 'abroad' in Europe :D Here's to a better year of motoring in style, problems solved not encountered, and the open road ahead for all lucky enough to be following pop-up headlights! All the best to you all! Martin Mc

Re: Pud the Celebration - previously known as R2...
She's looking great David! You really are the master of re-finishing daily driving wedgies! I've laid up Nilani in the Father in Law's garage for the winter, under cover and dry, with battery disconnected. Now I just have to let the cat in there from time to time to sort out any rogue rodentry :) We...

Re: Battery dying? Strange symptoms (for a newbie)
It is worth checking the earth strap underneath the battery tray too, as this sometimes furs up and can cause batteries to discharge faster than normal (in my experience.

It's not that far from us, so if anyone is interested we'll happily go and have a look. Oh I think we are all interested , Sylvia! However, whether any of us are actually in the market...? There was that chap recently looking for a good example. Will have to look through recent threads.. It does lo...

Re: Low Mileage (??) Shed on eBay
It went for £287 in the end, so most likely another parts car. Sad, but I guess we all go that way at some point.. What a bleak thought for a Monday afternoon! Still, it could turn up on fleaBay soon as a 'barn find once in a lifetime low mileage only minus 30 of these on UK roads' example sometime ...

Re: what's your favourite in car music?
Anything by Depeche Mode on full volume is a good pick me up for me when in the car. Also Tears for Fears (Everybody wants to rule the world especially) and although technically not 80s, Fat Boy Slim (We've come a long way, Baby) always floats my 480 boat. The best music though, is the rorty sound o...

Low Mileage (??) Shed on eBay
Hello folks, I see there is a new arrival on eBay at the moment, in the shape of a 'low mileage' S with full leather, flat tyres and spiders https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volvo-480ES-480S-spares-or-repair26-600-miles-showing-Manual-gearbox/293772928063?hash=item44663b243f:g:rlcAAOSwZo5ff01W Now, it say...

Re: New member, looking for a 480
Hello Howard & welcome to the Forum! It is hard to put your finger on precisely what makes the Volvo 480 such an endearing car, as there are so many little quirks and features that draw you in - and once hooked you will stay hooked! I should know, as I've had 6 since 2004 (well technically 5, as I'm...

Re: Passenger side door pocket, rear speaker housings, load cover and ‘Venetian blind’
I had a Venetian blind and cassette holder in my first 480, a lovely low mileage ES 1992 which I think died in 2011 Never quite got the hang of the blind and ended up selling it on eBay. Funky though, now I come to think about it.

Re: They're like busses...
I'm always a bit suspicious of "selling for a friend" - as Van says, if Rob wants to sell his car what's stopping him doing it himself? Dodgy seller history? Doesn't really exist? At first glance this looks quite good but a couple of things from the photos - Rear arches look to be original and are ...

Re: I have strayed (well, technically only very slightly...)
Hello David, Sorry to hear your V50 turned out to be a dud - it is always a kick in the teeth when an apparently bona-fide thing turns rotten, so I am very pleased to hear you managed to get a full refund. There is the time and effort you expended in acquiring the car to take into account, I suppose...
