Re: A pool 480?

The French club buys unsaveble 480s and strips them for spares for sale to club members at very reasonable prices. However, it's a club that charges membership fees so it is properly constituted with President, treasurer and secretary who hold AGMs and file annual accounts . So, in addition to the p...

Re: A pool 480?

Thanks Martin!! Greatly appreciated. We are hoping to go and collect the car 1st August.
You are right about the great community spirit we have in this club - it's almost as addictive as driving a 480 on song !
Just been told Al was spotted on FB - great pic taken from a lorry cab.

Re: A pool 480?

I've just setup the Paypal pool - it's called Volvo480rescue. I've set the target at £750 - it's £500 to buy the car plus there will presumably be parts to pay for and MoT test fee.

All donations very gratefully received !!

Re: Snazzy's story

Thanks arthuy - must have taken the handbrake cables off when they took the petrol tank out. I'll ask Al to have a look underneath and make sure they aren't trailing. He's currently re-wiring the rear fogs to fit 2 working ones, he's been totally at a loss how to secure the wires so he'll be glad to...

Re: Snazzy's story

Finally got round the going through the box of bits and pieces that came back from the body shop - after sifting out my toolkit, locking wheel nuts kit, screen wipes (somewhat dry after 2 years!), old broken foglights and tatty front clusters I was left with a motley assortment of small items I coul...

Re: Is this a Club in the eyes of an insurer?

Yes if you are registered to use the forum you are a club member. For classic insurance you need to own another car on ordinary insurance for most companies although some will accept you having the use of another car belonging to a family member in the same household.
Hope this helps!

Re: A pool 480?

Paypal sounds like a better idea - I've just been reading advice on crowdfunding and it's way over the top for the sort of thing we want to do. Lots of work to set it up as well.

Re: A pool 480?

MoT fails aren't tooo bad at all. I don't actually know how the crowdfunding works - does anyone know if details of donors are supplied to the recipient ? I thought it was just cash you give with no return ? If I was treasurer, I wouldn't want to end up with a pot of money belonging to people I coul...

Re: A pool 480?

Al is happy to volunteer to use the Saab to take a car trailer down to collect the car and return it to Jiff. I'm happy to volunteer to act as treasurer if we set up a rescue group (retired accountant). We are also willing to make a donation towards the purchase price and parts needed to get it runn...

Re: Best Outdoor Breathable Cover for a 480

We use breathable fleece-lined covers - as much against the rain as UV damage. However, they are a real pain if you need to use the car when the cover is wet. Without the luxury of somewhere to hang it to drip, it has to be folded wet and then you are likely to get the fleece lining wet. They are al...

That's great news Martin - well done !! Sounds like she's in safe hands, we'll hope to see her at a meet before too long. If she was mine I'd have to call her Viking with that plate !

Re: Snazzy's story

Spoke to Pedantic this morning, and the reason he took the leds out was that one was only working on 21w, it went out when the headlamps were turned on instead of just dropping. Apparently it showed a small area of burn on one side which is strange because they were only fitted when the bodyshop put...

Re: Snazzy's story

I think I need to forgive Mr P - when Al put the leds back in, one of the popups wouldn't work. After a bit of fiddling about with connections and a tap on the cover, the popup came to life. So, the drls probably got changed at when the popup failed on the pre mot check.
