Re: Oli's 1992 Volvo 480ES Limited Edition

Thanks for all the info. I’ll make sure I ask all of these questions when I go! Sorry you had such a rubbish experience. Ditto... thanks for the write up. Sorry to hear its been grief. No problem at all, just please make sure you choose a place that is recommended or will at least put some ef...

Re: Oli's 1992 Volvo 480ES Limited Edition

Haha as a number plate enthusiast, I think the number is fine as you have managed to get the right age identifier(K) :hopping: Odd to think that a long time ago this particular car was the first one I had the intention of getting, before it sold to flipping bangers (I believe this is the car right?...

Re: Oli's 1992 Volvo 480ES Limited Edition

A bit of an update as I haven't in a while - nothing particularly exciting. Firstly, I sourced rebuilt and has some Turbo calipers powder coated - yet to be fit: https://imgur.com/enj0l8C.jpg Took a picture with a lesser vehicle: https://imgur.com/fVLJXXs.jpg Added some sound deadening: Before: http...

Re: Tyre Thread

I have 195/50 82V Michelin Pilot Sport 3 on Pud, and she certainly seems very happy on them. I've just bought some Continental All Season tyres for the front of mine. As expected the Turanzas on the rear have plenty of life in them (I should have rotated them). I was initially going to get Michelin...

Re: Volvo 480 - 2.0 TT 93' (Facebook)

I was a bit disappointed when I found out that you could get a 2.0 in a TT, when I 'only' had the 1.7! Not that I would swap my car now of course... just maybe the engine... :D

Wayne at W R Composites I believe Have a search for that term on here. I believe Sylvia (Dragonflyjewels) has been in touch recently
I spoke to him earlier in the year and he wanted £140 for one. I couldn't bring myself to pay that much even though I'd like one!

Definitely worth mentioning it! A few others have suggested it would be a good idea in other threads, the main problem always being everyone is spread all over the country!

Re: Improving 2.0l for track days

Thanks for your replies. I think a set of steel wheels with some track day tyres is the way to go and a good shout loose some weight from the car. Just don't remove anything that's fixed down and will need to go back in at a later date - it'll get lost/forgotten or broken! Without meaning to sound ...

Re: TT on eBay - Tavistock

Pretty cool (from a 1.7 two tone owners perspective) that it's a 2 litre. £2k does look expensive considering what bits others have listed - I bought mine for a little more on the basis that everything was there and worked aside from the rear heated window...! Honestly? I strongly suspect yet anothe...

Re: Improving 2.0l for track days

In my experience, tyres and brakes are the priority in terms of performance. Arguably more important than performance, is reliability! Having your car in good mechanical condition is important, you want to make sure you get the most out of your day and not have to give up half way through and you al...

For the benefit of the forum search: how to change rear brake pads / piston not returning compressing
I've covered it twice!

Rear brake overhaul how to

and also in Henry's service post
And I used your post as my guide, but it took me a long time to figure out the piston needed rotating!

Re: Oli's 1992 Volvo 480ES Limited Edition

Nothing much to update as I seem to be in a period of maintenance rather than improvement - although my Turbo front calipers are currently being painted. Typically the evening before driving down to Devon it became apparent that, as my girlfriend put it, we has 'run out' of brake pad. Turns out the ...

Re: Oooops I did it again....

Bumper bar is still in the science bin! Totally forgot about that! Drill bits were just good old HSS, lots of cutting fluid used and slowish drilling. Brake lines are UTTER hell.... They were definitely fitted pre-tank during assembly and designed to catch the worst of the road crap. the ro...

Thanks for posting pics of yours 100, are yours welded on at the top ? There is no sign of weld on mine so bro was wondering if the top bit attached to something else that was welded. Jeff's crafty plan to try 3d printing wouldn't work well if welding is the only option  I'm not sure if they a...

Re: Oooops I did it again....

How did the rear bumper bar come out of the mad scientist bin? Also, what kind of drill bits did you use to drill out the seat bolt, they appear to made of the hardest material known to man and just destroys drill bits! I've tried Titanium Nitride Coated HSS Drill, but is there anything more suited!...
