Re: ECU differences

Well you knew it would have to be complicated didn't you! In the end a google search of the numbers threw up a company selling an exact match for a not unreasonable £25 plus postage. That should be with me tomorrow DHL willing. At this point I'm inclined to play it safe! Norm has kindly supplied me ...

ECU differences

Further to me frying my ECU Norm57 very kindly supplied me with a replacement from a celebration he's breaking. As you can see below mine has got a different number again from two listed by GlasgowJim in the other thread. Mines on the left and starts with 101 and the celeb is 111. Does anyone know i...

Re: Hard working 480's out there?

Well before I fried mine :wall: it's been my daily driver for the last five years or so. As a gigging musician I clock up some miles and it's never really let down. Things have needed replacing (starter motor for instance) and I've replaced other things that strictly speaking didn't need replacing (...

Re: Battery polarity foul up - Urgent help needed.

Well I finally got the bugger out with aid of a stubby screwdriver that had cut down even further in order to gain access!

I may have sourced a replacement already - hopefully they're a match.

Re: Battery polarity fowl up - Urgent help needed.

Well I'm kinda stumped removing the ECU. Removing the trim no problem. I can feel the connector but for the life of me can't find the oft mentioned two screws holding it in either by touch or with aid of phone video. This is what I'm looking at http://www.leedsguitarstudio.co.uk/ecu.jpg http://www.l...

Re: Battery polarity fowl up - Urgent help needed.

Okay so it would seem the first course of action is to remove the ECU and get a part number for it. They seem to be fairly readily available. Then it's sourcing a suitable info centre donor I guess. Looks like it's gonna be an uncomfortable Friday for me! I'll go and have another look at the LCD's n...

Re: Battery polarity fowl up - Urgent help needed.

Cheers Jim.

So for the sake of clarity.

Thus far it's looking like I need a replacement ECU (that's the one found in the passenger side footwell right?)
and a replacement info center.

It's been a while since I had an info center apart. How doable is transplanting the LCD elements from a donor?

Re: Battery polarity fowl up - Urgent help needed.

Thanks for the wonderfully detailed and speedy information. Sure enough she starts up given some throttle. The revs race away up to 3000 and then settle back to 1100 quickly. Looking at the LCD with a flashlight I can't see any segments and there seems to be some backlight so I'm guessing it's somet...

Battery polarity foul up - Urgent help needed.

After a spell in hospital I came home to find my 94 ES with a flat battery. One recovery jump start later it's apparent the battery is goosed. To my eternal shame whilst fitting the replacement I managed to connect it up the wrong way round. I'm blaming all the drugs they've put me on - my head is a...

Re: Glovebox stuck

Thanks Jim, I'll give that a go when I've next got some anger to vent and fancy a good swear.

Norm57, Are you based in Leeds or nearby by any chance?

Gltease, I've ordered a box of pork scratchings that will live in the rear footwell in case of emergency.

Glovebox stuck

The title says it all really. My glovebox won't open. Things tried: Key - obviously. It's not the lock sticking Various degrees of banging and tapping. Wiggling left to right. Sliding credit cards around the gap. It's stuck on the left hand side. I've had a look at the bodywork pdf which didn't real...

Re: Starting problem

Problem solved! In the recent heat the connector for the crankshaft sensor had been pulled apart slightly as the pipe it was cable tied to has expanded and contracted. A quick spray of contact cleaner and reseating the connector has sorted it. I think I'll remove and clean the sensor anyway. Somethi...

Starting problem

Yesterday after a short run to the shops my 94 ES refused to restart. After doing all the usual checks I disconnected the battery for 10 mins and she then restarted getting me back home - thank God. However today - Nothing, nada, zilch. The engine turns over fine. The starter motor is relatively new...

Burgundy in Leeds

Spotted oncoming at the junction of Burley Road and Willow Road at about 3:10pm.

I was going to to pop my lights at you but there wasn't time plus I was in shock at seeing another 480 in Leeds!
Instead I managed a wave which I think you saw.

Really nice to see another 480!

I just replaced my entire front suspension (springs, shocks, top mounts and droplinks) and had no problem sourcing parts.
Mostly through ebay and eurocarparts. Ditto the rears...

Source of NOS & Torque Rod anyone?

Well after replacing my rear shocks at the weekend I've been looking at other components to replace and found a rear torque rod on ebay. Being local to me I rang them and made a low cash offer if I collected which they accepted. I had a good chat to them and it transpires they were a volvo dealer at...

Re: Black ES Leeds

Ha! Leeds is fairly easy to get lost in what with it's one way system. I think a forum member has some headlight motors up on ebay at the moment if you've not clocked those already. Seeing another 480 on the road is a rare occurrence round here especially now strong Tom has sold his turbo and moved ...

Black ES Leeds

Spotted this afternoon @ 2:15pm on the M621 headed eastbound towards Leeds. Black ES with pops up!
I shot past in the 'fast' lane and then hung back before coming off at Elland road. It was an M reg I think.

3D printing

I thought I'd post this up for discussion as it's been something I've been thinking about for a while and I'll wager there are those here that know more about the subject than I. With certain more delicate 480 parts getting thinner on the ground what's the practicality of using 3D printer technology...
