Thankyou Richard,
So the crankshaft pulley definitely needs so be removed? Sounds like it.
I will take it apart once the weather starts getting warmer.

Cambelt Questions
Hello. In the cambelt change 'official' instructions it says that a lock pin must inserted into a hole near the dipstick to lock the crankshaft. Now, I've found the cover plug for that, but I can't see any evidence that it has ever been removed to insert the said lock pin . Car has had 5 or 6 cambel...

Re: 480 s - Paris Blue - 1993: Free to a good home
Have you changed the coil?
This happened to me (driving on the motorway, then sudden loss of power, then it would run again).
The AA man came, tested that I had no spark, I had a coil in the boot, so we replaced it and i was on my way. Same coil is on the car today.
Kind Regards,
Stephen

Re: Urgent need for windscreen top seal
You can take it out before the windscreen fitter comes. No need to find another one if your existing one is not damaged. From the front of the windscreen strip, ease out the rubber with your fingernail, then once you have it free, pull it upwards. It fits around the top of the glass. You will need t...

Re: GJ's mega clearout of spares for sale
Well, some of the pins within the connectors are not making good contact. So I actually only need the pins from the connectors. Are you able to help with this, do you have any available?
Kind Regards,
Stephen

Re: Replacing Clutch Cable
Well, I did it again. This time using a longer cable from a 440 B18U (3470374), it works okay, the throw is the same, but if you decide to use an incorrect cable - be careful how you route it, make sure that you keep it away from the drive shaft. I think that the clutch cables keep on failing becaus...

Sorry, I have to log in and comment.
They are €185 each on Skandix = about £130...
Don't think the seller realises they are still available...

Rev counter - Square Wave?
Hi All, I've got some problems with my rev counter, so I've removed it, and I'd like to test it. So, I *think* that accepts square-wave source, but I am looking for some more details - Voltage p-p and frequency range... I've actually got different one in the car at the moment, but the dial face is t...

I ruined my spare tailgate and its wiring loom, by trying to remove it. Maybe it is would have been easier and faster to change the whole tailgate...

Re: 1991 ES Breaking in Wigan
I was thinking of having a drive up at the weekend, but considering that they wouldn't let me remove parts myself, I wouldn't bother. The breakers were not the best in the area, my past experience of them had always been rude and arrogant with astronomical prices, even slamming the phone down on me ...

10 years of ownership
Well, I've had my trusty 480 for 10 years today, remember buying it when I was a poor student back in 2004 and didn't expect to be still running it 10 years later.
Bought with 69000 miles, now with 193000 miles and hopefully many more to come!
Happy driving.

Re: Gear box oil
Always use the Volvo stuff if you can.
Cheaper brands have additives which can cause the bronze components within the gearbox to rot.
I also used Millers TRX Synthetic, which also does not have any bronze-rot chemicals.

Windscreen rubber trim - could someone supply a picture?
I wonder if anyone would be kind enough to take picture of how their rubber trim above the windscreen looks. Had my windscreen removed this weekend, but since it was replaced, there is a 1mm gap all the way along between the roof line and this rubber. I don't think this is normal as it is causing wa...
