Re: Oil separator removal on a B20F engine

I believe it is just a push in job. I remember mine being a pain to remove though. I think I had to give it some assistance with a hammer - knocking it from side to side to free it.

Re: es 1.7 cam wanted

If I remember rightly, the cam you want is from the B18E engine - only fitted to early 1.7 480's (1988 - 1989). The was the 1.7 non-turbo engine that gave the highest BHP output, and I seem to remember from years back, that this was the (theoretical) cam of choice for turbos. Not sure if anyone actu...

Re: turbo non start :(

Is the fuel pump running? You should be able to hear it (quietly) when you turn on the ignition, but before you start the engine.

Re: Ventilation Systems - how interchangeable are they?

does the button valve non air con exist? I thought there was only 2 types aircon and non aircon (mechanical) systems. I have never heard of a button valve sytem which was non air con are you sure  It does indeed, but only on the very earliest of 480's. My old '89ES had the two-slidy co...

Re: Launch car on ebay. Again. Suspicious!!

.... they do make good ones and as its on carbs not injection they are legal to do so. I'm not getting involved in the argument here, but just wanted to say that looking at the photo of the engine, that looks like a B18E engine to me (the same as I had in my original '89 ES), and if that's the case...

Re: Wanted - Pollen filter parts

I added one on my 480 several years ago (long since been sold), and if you want my opinion, it wasn't very effective. When it was cold and damp outside, because of where it was situated, the pollen filter would get damp and not allow air through it properly, making it even harder to demist the front...

In my experience of having windscreens replaced on the 480, Autoglass as pretty good. RAC Autowindscreens are not. My original 480 had it's windscreen replaced by Autoglass. The came to my place of work and did a very satisfactory job of replacing the windscreen. 5 years on, and no issues whatsoever...

When I bought my original 480 (1.7 ES), it had a towbar fitted by a previous owner. It also had special springs fitted, so it could take the extra weight. I removed the springs and fitted standard ones, as I didn't intend to tow anything. I still have the springs, and no-longer have a 480. If they'd...

I've heard that some of the V40 engines (possibly all the petrol ones?) are mated to a Mitsubishi manual gearbox - the same manual gearbox that was in my FTO. Just be warned that they're cable-change, rather than rod-change gearboxes, and when they're cold, can be very notchy, stiff and difficult to...

I think, if the mod's read this, then maybe this thread should be 'tidied-up', or even removed, now that "cliffeydawlish" has created a new "for-sale" thread.

I thought that any car bought privately, second-hand would be "sold as seen". I know every car I've ever bought, has been. Personally, I'd interpret that to mean that if I bought a car, and then found problems after purchasing it, they were now my problems, and it was my own fault for not spotting t...

Just to add possibly more misery, if the nearside driveshaft has come out, you might find the 'spider bearing' (not sure of it's official name) that the driveshaft slots into, has also 'come apart'. This happened with my 480 when I fitted my lowering springs, resulting in the driveshaft not going ba...

You can get exhaust heat-wrap, which would be ideal for the job. Have a search through eBay - last time I looked, there was loads on there!
