Re: New Year, New 480!

Hi Martin The pop-up headlights are oh-so endearing on these cars, but they really do add a complication to things! You say changing relays made no difference - presumably these are the ones that came in the car? So you've been able to compare and are certain they are the right relays? You've change...

Re: Nilani - the latest acquisition

Glad you seem to be feeling more up to it, I remember you saying with my car that the arches can be replaced fairly easily, on seeing yours there looks like a major dent on the front quarter - I presume this is a simple replacement, or is it already done? Hope things are well Thanks Ben Yes, it was...

Re: Jiffs Little shop of horrors...

I know it's an example list, but if you have a couple of working headlight struts I'd be delighted to be your first official customer! David Working??? They're brand spanking new, never been out of their packing. Closest they've been to a 480 is when the courier walked past the car on the driveway!...

Re: Jiffs Little shop of horrors...

This is an excellent idea Jeff and a worthy one. There are, I know, many of us happy to help others out from our spares when we can, and not to make a profit, but there had been a gap for this sort of approach ever since Glasgow Jim moved on from the 480 world. I know it's an example list, but if yo...

Re: First 480, first real project car

Sounds sensible - you can keep the rust at bay for a while if you stay on top of it and monitor it. Ultimately you will need the welder though... Getting the bumper skin off is easy - remove those metal strips then wiggle the metal bar and foam packing free of the plastic. If you'd like a hand give ...

Thanks Martin!

Nilani has indeed been a great help to me health-wise.

You are very welcome anytime to come over and let's compare notes. You have all my contact details so give me a shout! Look forward to seeing "Lilani" ;) soon. :D

Re: Nilani - the latest acquisition

I have been rather neglecting this thread, so time to put that right! Ever since the Lincolnshire meet, when Nilani behaved impeccably. I had to take 3 months off work due to being ill, which being self-employed is no joke, so given we don't actually need 4 cars (!) we sold the V60 - as our one newi...

Re: Sad day. Poppy being passed on.

This is sad news, Chris. I seem to recall that over the years on this forum you've put a lot of effort into Poppy... :( Am I right in thinking she's white? I'm sure someone on here will consider trying to save her but if you can get some pictures up so we've all got some idea of what we might be loo...

If I didn't have the shonky C70 I would be diving in with both feet!‎ It is taking up space, time, money and is rewarding to drive *sometimes* in return.
'Shonky' - technical term??
Not sure what it means - shaky and wonky? - but I have no doubt my C70 is shonky as well...

Re: 1988 Volvo 480 ES - A New Era Dawns: One year on

IIRC, the brake light switch screws into the bracket - essentially as you were doing to adjust it. It's a case of drivers seat back as far as it will go, steering wheel up as high as it will go, then slither in on your back upside down. Resting your legs up the drivers seat can help! Take a decent i...

Re: 1988 Volvo 480 ES - A New Era Dawns: One year on

Excellent write-up, Ben, and a pleasure meeting you the other evening at my cousin's. You reminded me of my younger self when I first had a 480 with your obvious enthusiasm and love for your car - just the sort of owner the remaining 480 stocks need! James may well have a good point regarding the ra...

But then, we've seen what happened to Jifflemon with this benevolent attitude and now he's drowning in 480's. You say drowning, I say paddling merrily... Ah yes - paddling along and waving frantically at the same time... ;) Of everything in the photos, I think it's that flat tyre that gives ...

Re: GEAR CHANGE LINKAGES

Hi Dennis Sorry to contradict Martin, but all 480 clutches are cable operated, not hydraulic. Cable adjustment is quite easy, and assuming you have a Haynes manual it tells you in there how to do it. There are work-arounds with the various plastic bits in the gearchange linkage I think - try searchi...

Re: New Year, New 480!

Blackburn huh? Just up the road. I am J8 M65. That could be handy for a local mini-mini meet! Hopefully I'll be back on the road by the weekend, and a bit of a burn up the M65 would probably do the car a power of good :) When you fancy going a bit further afield, you're always welcome across the Pe...

Re: New Year, New 480!

She looks lovely! At first glance she doesn't look to be too much of a "project", either... I suspect the wires are for something aftermarket that was added and now removed. AFAIK the only things you find in that area are ABS unit or (lower down), the auxiliary water pump. As a 2.0 you don't have th...
