Re: Help/Advice needed!

This can be so many things, unfortunately. Throttle Position Sensor faulty or oily; dirty throttle butterfly valve; ICV dirty or faulty; ECU or engine management system related (perhaps not helped by your knackered exhaust); clutch related (thinking about some of your earlier posts); clogged air fil...

Re: Differences

Nothing to add to the good stuff above about SR etc. In terms of differences, apart from the obvious one namely the engine, they are surprisingly few. Turbos had a locking rear centre cubby box; early ES had this but lost it when Turbo came out. Turbo has the 3 gauge unit in the centre dash (volts/o...

It will have - all UK 480s did.

Whether they're still working is another matter.... ;)

Re: Help/Advice needed!

You should be OK re the coolant - the car should have warned you if it was getting too hot so as long as you haven't ignored any red light warnings on the info centre....

When I see you we will hopefully get to the bottom of all this :)

Re: Two tone on Car and Classic

Oh dear. Well, personally I know I'm among friends on here, and I am somewhat amused - no-one has ever called me a keyboard warrior before! I also know a dead horse when I see one and I am giving up flogging this one...I've tried, gently and kindly, to explain to you why you're encountering wh...

Re: Two tone on Car and Classic

Oh dear, you can't help those who don't want to be helped...you're not listening and you're not thinking... I never said you had to explain what you did with your 480s. What I gently suggested was that if you engaged with this forum from the outset, shared details of what anyone would surely see was...

Re: Two tone on Car and Classic

Can I respectfully suggest you put your toys back in the pram and calm down? I think you mean "clique " - and there isn't one. As you say it's a forum for all; just because some people see things differently to you doesn't make them wrong or bullies, and you don't help yourself at all by suggesting ...

Re: and then there were 9...... (rescue cars that is)

Before the winter descended upon us, the exhaust centre section finally arrived as did a replacement radiator. Fitted the radiator and...all seemed sound. So I refilled the system, with genuine Volvo coolant, and so far so good, we appear to have no more leaks :D I need to realign the exhaust pipe s...

Re: Rescue Car: R3

Long time no update on this thread - the demands of other cars (why do I own a fleet of these things??) and life generally as well as winter has been causing work on Felicity to be both slow and piecemeal. However, over the last few weeks I have been sorting the various things that she failed her pr...

Re: Rescue cars

Thanks for this round-up Jeff :D

I'll try to update R9's thread tomorrow as work is resuming on her.

Cars still available when completed are R1, R4 R5 R7 and R9. But there are pros and cons - more detail to follow!

Good idea James, and the workshop approach especially. Bit of a haul but if available I'll be up for it, certainly!

Messaged you back :D, cheers David Hi there, as a proud owner of a Rescue Car I can vouch for them. I would definitely recommend buying one to anyone on the lookout for a 480 as they have been sorted by people who know them inside out and gives great piece of mind. The work and effort that goes int...

Re: Volvo 480 on AutoTrader

Hello 480starter and welcome! Will has given a good synopsis of that 480 and I'm not going to really add anything nor disagree with him. What I will say is that interest in the 480 is on the increase and so, at last, are their values - but on the back of that some dealers are asking highly inflated ...

Re: The first of the 4 has appeared already!

Thought they'd soon start appearing! Looking at the MOT history it wants quite a lot of welding repairs done to it. The variation in MOT passes/fails/advisories suggests to me it's been to different places applying different standards. Even if all the rear end repairs were properly done at som...

Congratulations on passing your test, Adam, and do not despair of NIlani - as Will has said all the items you list are common issues that make owning a 480 such a barrel of laughs... ;)

I've messaged you; let's see what can be done...

Re: Volvo 480 S - 1.7 White Facebook

The key takeaway from this thread is that I would pay good money to watch James offering his frank opinions on other people's cars, as per the 'James May Roasts' series on DriveTribe. Come to think of it, our James already has the hair and the questionable shirts, all he needs is a camera  :ro...

Re: William's 1993 480ES Two-Tone

Changer was NOT standard in Celebration Only 400 with changer as standard was 96/97 440/460 CD model. I must be going mad.....I always assumed it was standard, seeing as I've seen so many Celebrations online with CD Changers fitted and just put two and two together. It's a shame there was no standa...
