Re: gas struts for rear hatch
I bought mine from this company. Was a bit dubious due to the location, but good feedback and they arrived quickly. £26.50 for Magnetti Marelli ones http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1986-1996-Volvo-480-E-Tailgate-Boot-Struts-Gas-Springs-Lifters-x2-PAIR-/140898777169?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&has...

Re: 3D printing
Well no-one has asked God yet for permission to make replacement human parts. There was an article on the tv news the other day about a motorcyclist having new facial bits all made through 3D printing tech (or similar) and the results were good. It will be clever when they crack 3D printing with mul...

Re: What do you think?
I'm one of the weird people with a 480 who thinks they do look quite good as two-tones. I'm also a great believer in keeping things authentic and doing things OEM+ So I would do the same as above - respray in black, have some 480 wheels from a GT / Celebration or another Volvo's that fit, get them r...

Scandimania Channel 4 programme - 480ES
Not sure if you saw this programme all about Sweden the other day, but the presenter got a mention in for the 480ES.
Apparently he entered a competition years ago to win one, by writing a limerick (which he still remembered), which ended in 'Volvo 480ES'.
That is all...

Re: Rear light restoration -- one to practice on please
Good idea to experiment. No way of knowing until you try, but I know that I've cracked house windows before now when (carefully) stripping paint off frames with a hot gun. Will brittle plastic be similar ? Good luck and let us all know !

Ok thanks - very weird that they fitted them in the first place !volvo-tom2 wrote:Yeh, what they said! My car isn't running at all now (un-related problem) but after changing the insulation and removing the anti-static pads nothing changed at all. Everything electrical worked fine

That's where I was coming from Tom - do you NEED to have the anti-static things connected or not?

What did you do about the anti-static (?) wires connected to the metallic pads in the original insulation?

Re: Bonnet insulation
Replaced mine when it began to crumble, replaced it with some stuff off ebay, unfortunately i cant find the exact stuff i used, but its not really a foam, more of a carpet, but seems to do the job really well! (Bitch to cut tho i have to add) http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/retroteen08/201...

Which rear discs & hubs for 2.0 non ABS ?
I've no record of these ever being replaced on my 93 2.0 litre so I think its time they were!
Does anyone know if the 228mm ones are what I need as there doesn't seem to be much choice on combined hubs+discs unless you spend a lot of money?
Thanks

Re: Bonnet insulation
Mine was falling off and crumbling so I got what seemed like decent material on-line. Unfortunately it wouldn't stick to the hard, uneven 'varnish-like' glue that was left over from removing the original stuff. Please keep posting with how you get on. Or a recommended extra strong underbonnet glue !...

PC Racing Game with Volvos in (but no 480)
I was obviously bored with my 480 on Sorn for a few months, so bought a good driving game off the big online retailer - Race Injection. The Volvos I've found so far are:- Amazon P1800 850 T5 Estate C30 S60 240 (Turbo?) Good fun, graphics and value, even if you're not into this sort of thing! All the...
