Re-Born. Again...

As I thundered my way through France in my Audi 80 Sport, a not insignificant part of my mind was wondering just what I would find when I opened the garage door and for the first time was able to inspect the work of the bodyshop. When the time came, I was astonished. It wasn't a total surprise, I ha...

Re: Paris the Unicorn joins the club !

This is honestly amazing news Sylvia, even though it is a lowly 1.7 Cat, what a rare specimen. You say it has the green bumper stripes, they look black to me, or is it just the light? https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw/AM-JKLVu30JCzHm0pgdyPICemX5S2NtGtQujhNo3Ryf79asFmVoGsGGJc3Jxo_YkAJ4ZEplXBL7mBJ...

Re: A unicorn joins the club !

Does this one come with Taurus wheels? Atlas 14’’ Unfortunately I believe the Paris Editions just about predate the Taurus wheels. Although I do agree, Taurus wheels look great on Paris blue cars (as with a lot of other colours for that matter!) Good thinking Will, although I don't think it would h...

Does this one come with Taurus wheels? IMO Taurus and Paris Blue are an amazing combination, but this car is so special. H...

Re: Baby inbound!

My hearty congratulations to you two! :hopping: Reminds me of the story I think I remember in which my father had to pass a car crash while driving his brand new Mk4 Golf to the hospital to pick me up IIRC (not that I literally remember it). While that car is now a modern classic, it has nothing on ...

Was hoping the full reveal would be at the meet 😁
We shall see, will be a bit of a minor shock to go from the arguably 1970s Audi to an advanced 1980s Volvo!

Re: 7th May Northants - Derbyshire Mini Meet

Can't promise to be back by then but I could be able to do it, derbyshire isn't exactly far compared to a run to Provence and back... Pleased to see you have your car back Ben, looks great now. Thanks Sylvia, will do a full reveal when I can get some decent photos (apologies for the lack of a post ...

Re: 480 offset crash test footage

I think Audi also had a feature whereby the Steering wheel was pulled away from you in a crash before they had airbags, really interesting seeing how these things developed Audi's procon-ten system (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Procon-ten) was so well engineered, Audi was one of the last manufactu...

Re: William's 1993 480ES Two-Tone

Congrats Will, so glad you were finally able to get out! In regards to the handbrake, while it is mostly subjective, the design is pretty good, especially when you can rest your arm on the centre console which is perfectly positioned. HubNut didn't really do the car justice, even tho most of his con...

Re: 480 offset crash test footage

If I'm going to be in a car of any age (indeed, probably any car, but certainly of the 25 years plus bracket) I'll take my chances in a Volvo, thank you! Volvo were making their name based on safety above all other factors (such as performance or economy) when many other manufacturers had still to ...

Re: 1987 480 ES Project -- D-reg, 2nd oldest in UK

My info centre has dimmed from time to time, I found I just had to take the shroud of and wiggle the plugs in the back of the dash. For extra peace of mind I WD40 + Silicone greased the plug and It seems to be fine. Since I did that though there has been an incessant squeak coming from the dash, but...

Re: 480 offset crash test footage

Yeah these cars are solid and safe. When you consider the passenger compartment is a safety cage and a solid one at that, it is on par with 'modern' stuff (after 1998) just without a hand grenade fixed over your crotch (on some models) Indeed, I find this footage fascinating from an engineering pers...

Re: Some seemingly random questions

Early cars were generally better specced than later ones, due to Volvo having to bring the cost down on what was essentially a custom spec car they made little profit on. I fitted a digital clock to mine as I can't really use an analogue one, and I felt it spoilt the high-tech theme of the interior....
