Re: Gear linkage / leakage
Not sure if this is entirely relevant, as it sounds as though your leak is where boot meets diff, Good luck, hopefully it's just the boot seal. As you say, gear oil leak is a real pain - plus it stinks! well I can cope with the 'dribble' from the shaft (I think) I don't mind engine oil leaks as it ...

Re: Gear linkage / leakage
Hi Alan, Sorry to hear about your oil leakage woes. The problem with using a press pulling the tripode is you have 3ft of shaft to accommodate downwards - no good for my bench press. You need a tower press with legs. I have used a three-leg puller in the past, but BOY it's tight. http://www.jaykaye...

Re: Headlight won't go down
Yesterday I took my day light running bulb out to change it and mistakenly put my headlights down as I drove to the shop to buy another, so the headlight only half went down as it didn't have a fully circuit without the bulb (made it a real ballache to get the screw out to get the headlight cluster...

Re: Gear linkage / leakage
The boot is easily obtained from evil bay. However.... does the inner tripod easily pull off, (after circlip removed) and how does the bellows go back over the bearing/shaft? Absolutely not! Job for a press I'm afraid! ( maybe you could improvise with a vice and drifts, but I had a press so used it...

Re: Gear box / drive shaft linkage / leakage
Any suggestions as to best place to buy the 'bellows' for the inner end of left drive shaft? I still have oil dribbling from the shaft and cant see where the lip seal is fitted? I assume the lip runs 'inboard' of the bearing? there is a wee bit of a wiggle on the bearing/rubber etc. does the inner t...

Re: Fuel Pump Gasket/Petrol Fumes
The plastic is delicate as Alan says but should be okay if left alone. I had a fitting snap on the top of mine due to a ham fisted garage. Weirdly it didn’t really show up until I brimmed the tank and it poured out the top! I broke mine when trying to remove the pipes  at least there were two ...

Re: dashboard cable broken
I might be able to liberate some of those diddy connectors and the crimps that go with them in case a wire does get broken, but not 'dozens' of connectors, it is difficult to buy some of these unless you have an account

Re: Fuel Pump Gasket/Petrol Fumes
I am 'asking for a friend' as his 480 has a petrol leak/smells of petrol and the garage has diagnosed the fault as the gasket between the fuel pump/sender and fuel tank - the original Volvo part number is 3412576 which of course is no longer available. Any suggestions as to where to get a gasket or...

Re: Cruise Control - how feasible?
More a "why reinvent the wheel"? AP900 is an off the shelf, aftermarket cruise control kit which can be had for a fraction of what people are trying to sell ancient Volvo bits for...... these? https://www.bridgwater-electronics.co.uk/ap900-cruise-control-unit-p84 ? not sure about 'wiring harness' b...

Re: Cruise Control - how feasible?
arduion, rapberry Pi or similar?
would be simple enough?
pulse counter from speedo input, or extra input using a hall effect on N/S drive shaft and stepper motor to open/close the throttle?

Re: Coolent running low but no leaks?
Coolant has been topped up, seemed fine this morning then on the way home it started getting really hot again so I did as you said and blasted the heater and that brought it down to a more reasonable temperature (still a bit high but much better) then I just went to the shops again and it was perfe...

Re: Coolent running low but no leaks?
Also check for interior leaks from the heater matrix rather than in the engine bay. The interior doesn't need any extra sources of moisture than normal! yes been there, leaks from heater to UNDER the mat/soundproofing :-( lift edg eof carpet at doors and slide hand underneath, not always very pleas...

Re: not starting 1.7 ES Auto
I'd have thought the same Allan, but the window can be operated to close when the ignition is off, I think?  If that's the case then presumably the circuit remains live for a time after ignition off and if the motor was faulty it maybe didn't time off? No idea really, much prefer to le...

Re: not starting 1.7 ES Auto
So it's looking like the defective regulator may have had a major part in draining the battery (I thought it had been removed, but it appears it wasn't - I hadn't takrn the door card off to check! :D :D   ) at least it is a plausible option, in effect the motor is always 'on' although I'd...
