Another interesting thing. I realised that I got towed home last summer, using the towing eye attached to the front bumper. If you see how the bumper is rotten away completely, it's strange that the towing eye wasn't ripped off the bumper during towing.

If people are interested in using the Volvo butyl stuff I mentioned above despite the negative comments, it costs only 14,50Euro from Volvo. Then you have more than enough to seal both rear clusters. If you route only one line around the cluster, which is enough to make it leak free, it's even possi...

I didn't want to remember that picture  But I think mine isn't that bad. I've removed the rubber that runs along the roof, and the rust spot isn't any bigger than shown above. But next week I will find out. Tuesday the windscreen will be removed and the roof will be sanded. And the first one of...

I've repaired the image links. All the pictures are working now here.

I think the original color looks the best too. The new paint will be the original color with a clear layer on top of it.

The big respray adventure

WARNING: IF YOU ARE AFRAID OF RUST, DON'T CONTINUE READING  Well, I thought this would be the right time to show the experiences from last week with you all. I wanted to have my car resprayed as the red paint isn't as red anymore as it once has been. There were some rust spots that needed fixi...

The earth point for the rear lights (and indicators, brake lights etc.) is below the left cluster, close to the corner of the car. It's one bolt where several cables connect to the cars body. Make the cable eyes (or how they should be called, don't know exactly) clean again and do the same for the s...

In my current 480 I find it worth the money to have the arches repaired. In the above 440 not. That was because it was the most basic edition without any luxury except powersteering and it had the B18U engine. Next to that, also all the four doors needed welding or replacing. I agree that if you hav...

I've owned a 440 too. Sold it because the rear arches and the underside of all the four doors were rusted badly. Decided not to spend any money on getting the rust repaired and got myself a 480. Never regretted that decision :)

If you have the inlet manifold of a 480 which was equiped with ABS, then there wasn't any hose for the servo brakes. The ABS system uses the ABS pump to increase the braking power.

Is it that easy to get the windows out? And to get them in again? I'm planning having the car resprayed and I want to remove as much as possible to improve the result.

I think it is for the injector cooling system. This system was installed on the first cars, but later left out. The metal part where the hose could be connected is still there at the injector rail, without any use.

The oil vapor recycle system is located at the front of the engine.

The valve will not open due to pressure created by the turbo. The high pressure side of the valve (the original one) is at the side. This way the pressure can not push the valve open.

If the spring weakens then the valve will open at less vacuum in the inlet than at its orginal spring stiffness.

The cambelt itself cannot make the wining noise that a slipping aux belt cam do, as the cambelt can't slip around the poulies. What can make noise are the tensioner and the other wheel where the cambelt is routed around (don't know the right English word for it). When the bearings in these are worn,...

Don't know if this is the case for the newer type ABS, but I had this problem with the early type ( '89) with the computer in the boot. First I cleaned all the sensors, after that I cleaned every connector to the sensors, ABS unit and computer and still had this problem. I gave up and went to Volvo....

Good to hear that it isn't as bad as you first thought. I recognise it when something happens to my car, I also first think of the worst that might have happened. For some reason it's easier to think logical about problems of someone else's car :) I'm wondering how much oil did you had in the system...

That's a lot of money if you need to do all 4 pistons. Do you want to do all the pistons or the one you think is broken? But I still don't get why you're so sure that you've killed the piston rings on one or more pistons? How much oil did you add above the maximum? And if, for example, a reasonable ...

Haven't had this myself before (I'm not a retard  ) I would imagine that other parts than piston rings will give way first if the pressure there gets to high due to too much oil. Maybe an oil seal? Maybe you can check such things first? Although it may not explain the smoke from the exha...
