Re: My second 480...... project 'sleeper'
ref rad location, plenty of room 'up front' to move rad around and on mine it doesn't extend full width inside the cooling intake so a shallower one FULL width could go nearer front bumper , even at a slope if reqd to keep top forrad for room for turbo, or even a pair of smaller ones with the turbo ...

Re: My second 480...... project 'sleeper'
Ade having the two cars side-by-side is often a bonus, you can do some 'measuring' and design BEFORE head to scrap yard. and as you say the T5 does command a premium, £300 for a whole SAAB car can't be bad. If you know your way around the SAAB even better, whats not to like? PS there SHOULD be a 'to...

Re: My second 480...... project 'sleeper'
would a 5 pot volvo ex T5 fit? :hopping: just maybe some common parts tween the 480 & drive train now that would be wild! I did see that 'shell' for sale and assumed that teh engine had gone into a renault 5 :cryhard: but if you got the chance to save a 480, crack on, do let us all know progress (ev...

Re: Urgent need for windscreen top seal
Auto windscreens have been very understanding though, they've been out twice now for this job and they're coming back to finish the job when I'm ready. Don't know what I've have done otherwise. Good stuff, at least glass will survive longer that way . . . . I think it was auto-windscreens I used as...

Re: Opening the dash
remember that you need to remove the three rocker switches first , can be tricky (well I always do) and then the whole tumbler light switch will 'ease' out , mine is actually a wee bitty loose due to numerous attempts to fix the speedo

Re: One-speed blower
it could be the fuse, from memory the FULL speed supply is from a different fuse from the others! (no idea why . . . . . . , maybe not even fused on max chat? )
other than that the big resistor (buried in air flow? ) will be U/S. it looks like a tripod sort of thingy
fuse easiest?

post a few more random replies and then upload pictures  sounds like a bargain, but it will depend on how much of the loom you remove! re-shelling a car is an 'interesting option' best if it was sold with the V5 then the new owner could put their engine/box (plus loom) into your shell and stil...

Re: remvoing the front wheel liners...
Any tips on the replacing / getting a new set of screws after the grinding Alan? Sometimes cars have weird sizes :-) Thanks for the pointers! oh no idea, i just seem to have gathered these sorts of things over the years . . . . . . mostly as the local scrappy is a 'remove yerself / pay at gate as l...

job done, sodding nightmare getting the mirror to turn back and fore, ended up with a junior hacksaw to carefully cut the pivot tube along it's axis to let it drop down slightly in diameter so allowing movement!

thin angle grinder disc and make a single flat slot for a normal screwdriver, the heat will also help, and if all else fails the head will come off and once the plastic is removed then vice grips to rescue

easy to remove, YES, stanley knife
although it means you can't re-fit in future . . . . . . .
will it affect anything else, that depends on what else it drives

Re: Urgent need for windscreen top seal
Cheers Suddy, I'm hoping the guy has no problems removing the strip, but he said he's done a few in the past and the seals usually fall apart. I'm panicking that I'm going to be left with a windscreen with no seal. I might have a go at removing it myself on your recommendation. My God these cars ar...

Fraser
good to meet up with you and see what you are planning, a bit envious of the shiney motor , I'll better get the polish out
still looking for the two litre inlet manifold, I may have decided to re-cycle it. . . . . .
I'll have another look through the week

Fraser I thought you had a 1700 but didn't question the 2litre, from memory they are NOT the same!! the throttle body from 2 litre has four HORIZONTAL M5 or M4 bolts holding it to manifold and plumbing for wtaer heating and breather from crankcase . . . . Actually planning to take the SS1 !! but onl...

Re: Oiltempsensor spooky
I'd say dicky wiring, assuming that you have checked that he oil level is OK
ours does it on & off, so don't pay much heed to it , also water temp some days never changes from COLD, although the oil gets to 70 or 80 !
but as long as speedo / rev counter are working happy days

Re: Late mirror cover replacement. 56k go do something else!
I need to free off the fold back part and I'm worried that I break the whole thing so I think taking the glass out will allow me access to the spring/pivot to 'lubricate/free are there four wee clips that hold the mirror glass onto the holder, or is the glass bonded onto a plastic carrier so reasona...

Re: New alternator needed!
has your alternator completely died or is it just struggling to hold a steady voltage? id it's the latter all you need is a new regulator for it! i've just ordered one for around £18 which i think is the right one (will confirm once it gets here and i try it on) but it's a much cheaper solution if ...
