European Spotting! : ES in Vlijmen
Visiting friends in NL, the 480 homeland, so i'm on high alert! I wasn't disappointed... https://i.postimg.cc/Zn3KRL9D/4801.jpg That was on the A59 near Vlijmen. I also present to you the other 2 door Volvo & DAF collaboration built at Born. Not quite a 480 but the bloodline is strong. Might be a st...

480 Turbo on YouTube
YouTube "reviews" are ten-a-penny, and there's a lot of dross on there that's for sure. Having said that, one of my subscriptions is a charming guy with a channel called "Morsels & Motors". To my surprise, he has uploaded a 480 Video... https://youtu.be/akCcNztIu2M Feel free to agree / disagree / te...

Re: Serial number on tag engine block
The "C Number" is the engine number and contains nothing of the VIN. Ford is the only manufacturer I can think of where the engine number is actually the tail end of the VIN. A "C Number" is perfectly normal for Renault. Most their engines are like this. In fact, they are terrible for clashing their...

Re: Gear linkage / leakage
Hi Alan, Sorry to hear about your oil leakage woes. The problem with using a press pulling the tripode is you have 3ft of shaft to accommodate downwards - no good for my bench press. You need a tower press with legs. I have used a three-leg puller in the past, but BOY it's tight. http://www.jaykayem...

Re: 480 Turbo Exhaust
Now, can I ask another question - can I remove the Cat. & bin it? The emissions requirements of the UK MoT test will mean a catalytic convertor will need to be fitted for vehicles first used 1st August 1992. Before that date, you can remove the cat and pass at the 3.5% CO level. There is a grace pe...

Re: 480 Turbo Exhaust
Ordered - thanks Jeff, don'tknow how I missed that one. Just one niggle. The company say it's suitable for an 88KW engine but not suitable for a 90KW engine. How do I check/confirm which engine is installed in my car? Any takers? 88kw (B18FT) and 90kw (B18FTM) is the difference between a factory po...

Re: 1994 Volvo 480 Turbo Diary - Update September 2022
I was in your thread anticipating an update, instead I'll take the opportunity to state that the Skoda Fun rear seats are glorious and I saw an exceptionally ratty example just a couple of days before your post! No updates here I’m afraid. The car has slipped back into that parallel universe called...

Re: Radios - Troubleshooting and Repair
Amazing post and a great read.
It's quite inspiring and keeps me going that people invest the time, skill and knowledge into something that anyone else would throw away. Love that.
I'll also be fitting my dream 1997 Kenwood head unit (oneday!)

Re: engine mounts on their way out?
I'm also quite certain that if you asked JKM very nicely he could look in his "nerds guide to engine mounts" book and compare freelander 1 engine mounts with Volvo 480 front gearbox mounts..... It's a PDF somewhere on my old laptop. Let me try and find that. EDIT It's still online here from ...

Re: engine mounts on their way out?
There are other things that cause judder even with the best engine mounts - a flywheel that needs a skim, contaminated clutch friction surface or busted friction plate cush-springs. Get in there with a pry-bar, or get some mates to grab and yank the engine back and forth, whilst a below observer che...

Well that’s not cricket. I thought Norm started a thread the other day highlighting the unjust carnage of the scrappage scheme….. oh the irony. Regardless of R3’s whereabouts, the passion and dedication given by members on here doesn’t go unnoticed. Hopefully, one day, the retail value of a 480 will...

Re: No Fluid to Rear Brakes
This does give Jeff the opportunity to mention one of his prized tools though….. The coily heaty wire o-tron? I’ve just snapped a pair of bleed screws on an R50 mini. Can’t help but think Jeffs tool might be a wise investment. Anyway, the 480, has it failed said MoT on rear brake efficiency?...

Fingers crossed, paintshop dependant. Again.
I'd love to check out the 262C. One of those cars you shouldn't love, but secretly do.
