As I commented on Facebook....
Sound like an overly zealous MOT test to me.
Last 3 years the only advisory had been a sight blow from the exhaust.
Suddenly, every brake pipe is rotten, the whole underbody has rusted away and the engine is self destructing.....

That early shot is a Bosch alternator - Yup, that's how sad I am.... Personally I did away with the stator painting worries and went with the later internal fan, slightly higher output valeo ones! https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw/ACtC-3cr2hsol_ewxrceYRYlx1ZClC52ZvuId4d8uLDWMCtwsq8BmaLWOtD5pJSeSg...

Re: Volvo 480ES - 1.7 Manual (eBay Auction)
So, spidey senses tingling straight away here..... 1) 3 of the pictures are screenshots from his phone? makes me think that he's uploading pictures from the previous eBay auction (9 months ago!) Screams laziness, which is further added to by the fact that 3 & 4th picture is the same damn picture, ju...

We have seen that one for sale not so long ago. I remember commenting on the 460 wheels; arguably one of the least offensive modifications I spy. Ann Summers included. Another hot potato car. “Shall I spend some money welding these sills, thus preserving my classic car? Nah, I’ll spend the money on...

Re: Look who's back up for sale
Appealing an MOT isn't as straightforward as it should be.
For maximum effect you want it as close as possible to the original test date and with as few miles as possible covered.
Even corrosion only has a 3 month window.

Re: Ignition fault, car not starting
Thanks all. What I really should do is take the fuse out again and see if it replicates the problem. Boot hatch wiring does need attention as the cables are damaged. I had managed a bit of a repair to at least keep the wires separated and prevent any shorts. I've haven't got this sorted properly ye...

Re: Look who's back up for sale
just to remind everyone of the previous miracles performed on the car.... No MOT currently, and given the list of defects the car failed two subsequent MOTs (one month apart - listing some of the same defects) makes it very unlikely to get it MOT'ed without major investments. Date tested 15 May 2020...

Re: Ignition fault, car not starting
I have no idea why fuse 9 being blown should affect whether the car will start though! Mind you, it's the fuse for both front & rear wiper motors so I would suggest it might be a good idea to find out why it was blown in the first place... David I'm going to go with tailgate loom as the starting po...

Re: 1994 GT - eBay.
Check first that it IS the clutch.
Have someone press the pedal and check the bulkhead isn't flexing.
Then remove the cable and make sure it runs smoothly.
Oh, and congrats on your purchase, lets have LOTS of lovely pictures!

Re: Best looking smartphone holder / integration solution?
Thank you everyone... It looks like I am quite alone in wanting to see my phone's screen! The biggest reason is dynamic navigation. With COVID, I am taking the car to work through the city (daily driver!), and traffic changing means it is useful to have Waze guiding me according to what works. I ac...

Funny you mention it....
The turbo came with a "proper" nokia car phone hard wired in (not that it was owned by a yuppie or anything!)
Still powers on! will grab pictures if there's any interest!

Re: Best looking smartphone holder / integration solution?
Mine lives in the centre console, out of sight and reach, and I ran a USB cable from the Head unit, down and into the console, meaning it's always charged and can do handsfree calling etc.
