So yes, it must indeed have been the battery. The starter never clicks anymore, and as a bonus, it also seems that my dirt-cheap car radio is now much less impacted by electromagnetic noises from the engine. Interesting.

As I am new here I do not know how interesting a car without number plates sitting in Switzerland can be for everyone. But interior looks ok, some rust repairs done... and I suspect based on the market here that it will go for 500 chf or so.
