Re: Volvo 480 book

OK, I have now received the text and it was really very good - I think Eric's English has benefitted from my constant emails so I seem to have been giving English lessons as well ! Update 25th August 2020 Today I am pleased to announce that the Volvo 480 book is available to order in the English ver...

Re: Volvo 480 Bus company

I really rather like the stripes on the side of the green GT. Why didn't I think of having Snazzy's replacement subframe powder coated in electric blue instead of picking boring grey ? O, maybe something to do with the fact I never look under cars  PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let them all find a good ...

Re: A Sorry Looking Celebration (Given a Lifeline!)

here are the photos: https://www.dragonflyjewel.co.uk/sylvia/r2.06.jpg must have been a pretty weedy crowbar, door damage isn't too bad, and Jeff has a plastic panel. I seem to recall a bit of distortion on the other side of the drivers door, around the bottom of the window - maybe a replacement doo...

Re: A Sorry Looking Celebration (Given a Lifeline!)

After a long and tiring day I'm happy to report that R2 (331 of 480), otherwise known as Pud, is safely in the sanctuary. The write off was explained when we looked it over at the scrapyard - someone tried to crowbar the driver's door open and presumably smashed the lights and added various bits of ...

Re: yet another bus !

Payment sent by bank transfer this afternoon, seller has ended the auction so now there are 3.
Here was me originally thinking we could maybe save 2 or 3 a year  Mind, it might take Jeff a year to get over these 3.

R3 - yet another bus !

Bearing in mind that R1 is in need of a set of seats, preferably the early design with blue piping, I got all excited when this came up on ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volvo-480es-Spares-Or-Repair/324266463277?hash=item4b7fc9902d:g:aBMAAOSwU~9fPNFt&autorefresh=true No closeups of the wheel arches...

Re: Volvo 480 book

Not quite ! I've been editing the google translate version, much of which might just as well have been in Dutch ! It's been a long slow haul, firstly to make sense of what it's supposed to say and put it into understandable English and then to re-write some parts to reflect the UK perspective ...

Re: A Sorry Looking Celebration (Given a Lifeline!)

Glasgow Jim's undoubtedly was 480 Central, but jifflemon's is definitely The 480 Sanctuary  The trailer hire is booked for next Thursday, just anxiously watching Northampton's covid outbreak in case they get put back into lockdown. I do have a plan B but the date might have to change. Fingers c...

Re: A Sorry Looking Celebration (Given a Lifeline!)

My worries about the lack of V5 largely evaporated when Jeff sent me the HPi report - the words 'not stolen' were reassuring, as was a chassis no that matched the one the scrapyard gave me for the register. My remaining concern is that the wording against the Cat c write off is 'extensively damaged'...

Re: A Sorry Looking Celebration

This one will go into dry storage until R1 is finished and back on the road. Then Jeff will move on to working on R2. (or maybe it will be chaos-style, I'm sure he's as keen as us to find out if there's any hidden problems). The best outcome would be for R1 to sell for a decent price to safe hands i...

Re: CELEBRATION 403 - SOLD

Normally I organise 3 meetings a year, but sadly not this year so far. We usually have 12-15 cars and drive in convoy but with the current restrictions it hasn't been possible. The eating places can't take such a large group, and the convoy might attract unwanted attention. Maybe things will have ea...

Re: CELEBRATION 403 - SOLD

Hello and welcome! Always nice to have a new member and your Celebration looked a real treat - hopefully we will be able to see it in the metal at a meeting in the not too distant future.

Re: A Sorry Looking Celebration

Well, the price is creeping up but still only breaker money. I'll be bidding by snipe in the dying seconds of the auction - if I get outbid I think it'll be going to someone who actually wants it. If that's you, send me a pm !

Re: A Sorry Looking Celebration

Jeff has done an HPi check, it's a cat c write off (just one broken light cluster in 2011 would write it off). Not a problem, our blue turbo was a cat c as well and got a V5 without difficulty - just vehicle identity check and presumably an mot or similar condition check. This one came up as not sto...

Re: A Sorry Looking Celebration

David, if you could get over to look at it that would be great. Al is onboard with saving it so I have been arguing with myself all afternoon on how much I should bid for it. I see maybe £1000 for the n/s rear light cluster/near perfect interior/rear roller cover but I suppose how much a breaker wou...

Re: A Sorry Looking Celebration

I find myself worrying about this one. The seller has kindly supplied details for the Celeb register. I also asked for close up pics of the wheel arches rear lights drivers bolster and pedal rubbers. All look good. Anyone near enough to call in and check it over ? Bidding on it stopped when the GT g...
