Re: Price when new?
Don’t forget metallic paint. If it was registered that early in Jan 1993 it would have been built in 1992 however model year doesn’t follow build year so best to check your Vin for model year. In-between the E and C (I believe all 480s had those letters) just before the chassis number will be N for ...

Re: Electric windows and mirrors not working
Yes I probably should have made it clearer it is for CEM III only, now done.

Re: Electric windows and mirrors not working
Reading another tread you are still having window problems there is a way of checking the CEM without swapping it. Disconnect the connectors A and B. https://i.imgur.com/LKam6pU.jpg Put jumpers between the following connectors on the sockets. A1(Grey/White) – B8 (Brown) B12 (White/Red) – B14 (White/...

And as mentioned here
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=35607&p=214171#p214171
an expensive ornament as it could not be registered without the VIN.

Re: Tail light lense
Looking at them I did think they looked melted together but thought "How would they do that?" I am now enlightened.
The down side of that is heating won't help and they will probably need cutting apart which will damage one side or the other.

Re: Tail light lense
Oven? Did not think of that but since it is all plastic I would be doubtful :) It seems to work on modern plastic lights (it’s on YouTube, so it must be true  ) but take it they are made of a different plastic and use different glue so the lights don’t melt first. :wall: I don’t think the rea...

Re: Tail light lense
Don’t whatever you do follow the internet idea of putting it in the oven to loosen the glue, the light melts before the glue (if it is actually glue). Don’t ask me how I know.
On and off I’ve been thinking/trying to do the same and not as yet come up with a way.

Re: Pop up control motor unfunctional - is it repairable?
1987 cars also used fuse 22 however if your pop-ups and DRL are working it won’t be fuse 22. Your new picture shows a short relay but in your original picture it is tall. https://i.imgur.com/oRdxVMI.jpg I may have confused things by lettering my arrows (should probably have numbered them) as ARROW -...

Re: Rear Light Refurb
I tend use much finer grades - Wet'n'dry grits 1000,2000 and 3000. I probably means It takes a lot longer, but time is something I've got. As you say I'm sure Wet & Dry 2000 and 3000 will do the same job but I didn't have any above 1200 and using the two grades of compound with an electric drill is...

Re: Bad Day
Actually I thought you were talking about different lights, I would personally call the Dim-Dip lights sidelights as that is what comes on when position one is used (in the UK) and the symbol looks like sidelights to me. I didn’t mention fog lights as it gets complicated as every country seems to ha...

Re: Bad Day
As far as Volvo is concerned there is no such thing as Sidelights on the 480, what you have are Main (popups) - high beam, flash – operate in all light switch positions, you just can’t see them if down. Dipped (popups) - normal headlights – operate in second position. Driving, Aux or Long Range (cle...

Re: 480 Turbo running problem
From memory when I was using mine as the daily run over a period of a week or so I got 26mpg (it’s a 1.7 Auto and did do better on a run). Cold start, 5 miles to work, stop, cold start, 5 miles home, stop. Wouldn’t call it stop start as the roads were clear and no cues but country roads with a coupl...

Please read https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/difference-between-gl-4-gl-5-gear-oils-manual-transmission-daniel-shi/ I found this when looking for oil for the Merc and although I have not read all of it yet it makes interesting reading and is the full document being quoted above. http://www.widman.biz...

After a question from the meeting I thought I would do this how-to. Before https://i.imgur.com/07tG7Bs.jpg First you will need some or all of the following. https://i.imgur.com/YXjDHWW.jpg The sanding discs I used are P120, P240 and P400 The wet & dry are P400, P800 and P1200 Other brands of compoun...

I also wish to thank Sylvia and Al for organising the meet that I and at the very last minute my better half managed to attend in the end, all be it just at Tissington Hall. One day I may even turn up in a 480.
Neither did I.

Re: Idle Control Valve
Looking at the pictures I would say yes. When I did mine I ended up taking it apart as just cleaning it as you discribe made no difference. However having taken it apart and from memory having all sorts of fun putting it back together it still made no difference as my idle fault ended up being elsew...

Yes using the Ticknall and Repton route you would pass my house but no they won’t be stopping the parking.
