Re: 1.7 480
Are you going to view it? Or simply buying unseen? How bad do you think it'll be? I'll have 1k left to sort rust and suspension Assuming you can do all the work yourself, you’ll spend a grand getting it mechanically perfect. The more “seasoned” amongst us know that all that glitters isn’t necessary ...

Re: 1.7 480
Hard to say from the limited photo's. Looks like a 2.0 S to me (hub caps). Half leather is a nice option. Nice colour and front lights don't seem to be damaged. MOT history shows a classic speedo issue (3 years of no miles, then jumped 31K in a year, and lost 23K this year). Advisories this year on ...

Re: My 480 GT
Rather than buy a replacement cog (thanks to Jifflemon for the link to the eBay seller based in Hungary for the replacement cogs), I thought I'd attempt to 3D print one. If it works, it means I can have one today rather than having to wait, also it would cost me much less. I actually keep stock of ...

Re: Scrap or restore? Honest opinions needed!
A very helpful list indeed!! Agreed - I don't want to waste too much on it if its totally knackered. Will a 1/2" socket wrench be enough to turn the engine or is a breaker bar essential? If so I'll have to wait until Monday to replace my broken one. Without scanning through the whole thread, I'll a...

Re: Here we go again...
Apparently the Radiator has now gone on it, and the Headlights wont work. The Radiator is apparently going to be sorted. But the Headlight isnt going to be done? The messages im recieving are rather cryptic. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not consider buying this car... For entertainment value, it's worth...

Re: My 480 GT
I've just popped out to have a closer look. It's not screwed in to anything, I think it's glued on to the original back plastic piece. It looks to be the same colour as the other side, as well as the rubber seal. Not a great photo, but you can just make out some of the original reflector through th...

Re: Scrap or restore? Honest opinions needed!
BUT - and it is a big but - there will be a lot of work and cost involved. How much can you do yourself? Can you weld, for example? Are you reasonably mechanically minded and experienced? Do you have a good range of tools? If you need to pay other people to do everything, then I would seriously que...

Re: My 480 GT
Yes, safe to say the dodgy reflector is the thing I hate most right now. I'm not OCD much, but that is really getting to me haha. Hopefully I only have to put up with it for a few more days and I'll have the correct one in. As for the knocking, you may be on to something there, I'll investigate tha...

Re: My 480 GT
Service -last service is unknown so I'd like to get a service done for peace of mind. Handbrake adjustment -I've improved it a bit but needs more attention. Fix Odometer -no idea why it isn't working, I'm guessing it's just a stuck mechanism. Speedo is fine. Have somebody inspect underneath and see...

Re: The bridge in fuse position 23
I am unsure whether this applies to the earlier models, but it is certainly relevant to 1991 and onwards. In the fuse-box, at position 23, you will find a slightly odd looking item - it resembles a fuse, but sits a bit proud and has much thinner prongs on it. It's the orange item in this (sorry, ra...

Light prism as in headlight switch/fog etc switch pack? David Yes! Hmm, did you do those wheels yourself? Thinking of doing mine, where can I get the right colour? There's no such thing! Pick a silver you like and use it! These (and my other wheels ) are done in VW Aluminum Silver Metallic (paint c...

Re: Rescue Car: R1
So with R2 now at the pamper parlour, it was back to R1.... As I'd discovered a lack of vapour barriers on R2, I thought I'd better check R1. Sure enough... Missing! Thankfully the speaker shields were there (and of better quality than the later ones!) https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw/ACtC-3enCg...

Did you see it actually went for an MOT? Do not drive until repaired (dangerous defects): Nearside Rear Service brake has no recorded effort at a wheel (1.2.1 (a) (ii)) Offside Rear Service brake has no recorded effort at a wheel (1.2.1 (a) (ii)) Parking brake efficiency less than 50% of the require...
