Re: Dendy's 480 Diary

think it's time we sourced or made our own versions of 21w/4w LED bulbs, of a known quality. Yes I agree. Ideally missing out the bulb holder all together. I think your lenses will still be likely to get damaged if you have an LED bulb running alongside a corrosion based DRL toaster in the clusters...

Re: Dendy's 480 Diary

Oli turned up once again at the weekend, this time with no lighting whatsoever on the front of the car. The first order of business was to replace a couple of blown fuses, but that didn't solve the problem. Next, we removed the nosecone to reveal a missing DRL holder (and bulb) and a fairly ruined w...

Brill Classic Car Show, Sunday 26th August

http://www.brillfestival.org.uk/classiccars/ A friendly laid-back car show in rural Buckinghamshire - I was the only 480 in attendance last year, this year I have two, possibly three cars coming, so if you're at a loose end then come along! The car show is attached to the village festival which is ...

Re: wow - decent press for a change !

Most of the last paragraph of the first article is fairly suspect: Does it handle? Not really. It’s far from lighting quick, either. You’ll need paper-thin legs for sitting in the rear and the boot offers a ridiculously small amount of space. Either the author is a 9 foot tall olympic weightlifter w...

Re: 11th August Scotland Mobile Mini Meet

So that's two meets in a row with a critical problem - has it occurred to you that it was left in a garage for 20 years for a reason? Seriously though, absolutely gutted to hear that you didn't make it, particularly considering the mileage involved. A real shame to make it so close only to hav...

Re: Dendy's 480 Diary

I used transparent Fablon, available on Amazon here , or alternatively at your local hobby/crafts shop or builder's merchant, as it is also used to cover windows. I made rough templates on paper and then trimmed as necessary. Looks like you've got everything you need for now - the VC802 should drive...

It replaces - the switch comes out and the bracket bolts to the engine in it's place, then the sender into the bracket.

Re: Dendy's 480 Diary

Oli turned up on Sunday with more problems. Perhaps I should become a full-time 480 mechanic... This time it was the passenger pop-up which was not doing much. Since I had a spare motor to hand, we decided to just swap it and then figure out what was going wrong later. Off comes the nose cone: https...

Re: WANTED: 480ES/NA Sports Gauges Oil Pressure Sender

The thing you have is a switch, responsible for turning the oil light on and off on the dash. Essentially, when the engine is running the oil pressure holds the switch open and switches the light off, when the oil pressure drops (or the oil vacates the car for some reason), the switch closes and the...

Re: My 480 life is just beginning!

I tend to get a blast of dry leaf particles to the face and eyes when I turn my fan on, and would be interested in a pollen filter housing or three. Would you be willing to organize a group buy if others are interested? If so then might be worth making a separate thread so as not to derail this one.

Re: WANTED: 480ES/NA Sports Gauges Oil Pressure Sender

Just to confirm, the mounting bracket for the oil pressure sender is just that, a mounting bracket. It has no function in the operation of the sender? Pretty much. It's a while since mine has been off the car, but as I recall the sender doesn't have enough clearance next to the oil filter without i...

Looks like they 'only' want €750 now. The bit that gets me is that they want €6.50 on top of that for postage

can you measure hole spacing and height, initial plan is to 'modify' front, due to time-frame (lack-of); then look at getting alternatives made
Will do. Haven't got it to hand right now so give me a couple of days.

Re: Wanted: Rear Engine Mount

if i had a gash unit i could get PU moulded fairly easily, just need a unit to copy!!! Might be able to help with that, depending on where the cut-off point between 'gash' and 'totally bolloxed' lies. See this post for an idea of what my old one looks like. Ade has also suggested that he could help...

Re: Centre Console Cubby Removal/Aux Gauge Installation

I did, IIRC it was simply brute force that was required... You'll need to get a sender that's compatible with Volvo part number 3344174, for example this part from FAE: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/NiDKWFGwpYH2gV1kGs1jRDXN0xFlTo64hZ6QIKIwKfSTBfDIsQzn-mB9p1_4ab6z0hs6eErExbMqRIizrJkyHuXss-RkrR-zr...

Re: 2.0 rebuild considerations?

Your garage might not be able to see how bad the damage is until the weight of the gearbox is removed from the mount and you can see the tear in the rubber. I know my front mount also "looked okay" until I actually removed it and it then became obvious that the rubber was in two pieces.‎ The differ...

Instrument / Rev Counter / Speedo Repair

Introduction: This thread is intended to serve as a guide to repairing your instrument cluster. I should add that Brinkie is very much the authority on this topic and he was kind enough to answer some of my questions before I started dismantling things, so he gets an honorary writing credit! I beli...

Sold for £1,071. Someone got a good deal! Let's hope that the rust on the arch hasn't spread anywhere else and they do a good job cutting it out and fitting the replacement panel.
