Re: 480 turbo CC Bello

Maybe not an issue but I had the SHORT single cable that links handbrake to the 'balance bar' become a little sticky, VERY difficult to change! lots of grease applied made a difference  The springs at the caliper 'should' be sufficient to pull the cable back to the 'off position' when central ...

Re: 480 turbo CC Bello

Jeff has done a 'how to service rear brakes' but a quick check is to make sure that when OFF the cam at the caliper is against the stop. it is possible that a previous owner has taken up all the slack at the adjuster under car (your first picture) and so no travel left? there is a small plug , it sh...

Re: 480 turbo CC Bello

There is a very thin silicone type sealant, Captain Trolley's Creeping that might work on the cracks??

NOTE I have never used it but others swear by it (or maybe swear AT it?)

I just flexed the lens slightly and pressed in some normal sealant

Re: leaking coolant from Methalic T

If the 'glue' doesn't hold then maybe just cut off the TEE (as far away from block as feasible) and add a short section of rubber hose onto the pressed in piece, then a new TEE ? I've found that 22 & 15mm copper fittings work quite well , especially those with the 'solder ring' as it helps keep the ...

Re: Power Steering Fluid spec

ruddy difficult access so had to 'splash the cash' for these 1/2" drive 17mm hex, not sure why I'd need a bi-hex as the hex was solid with a 10" extension to make sure held straight onto fitting, and to be honest not too tight :-) for information 16mm thread into the rack with olives onto the pipe. ...

Re: Power Steering Fluid spec

Yep i'm with you Alan, nothing fancy Dexron-III. Unlike transmissions where they may be sensitive to types, I think any old red ATF will do for PAS. Grade "F" dates back to the 90's, so 30+ years entirely possible if its been stored OK. Good luck, its a messy old job. Many thanks, confirmed my thou...

Power Steering Fluid spec

I am changing (or attempting) to change the pipes on the power steering, once I wrangle the fittings off, wish I'd tried last week rather than this week as the fittings are 'difficult to access' with a normal spanner or even a shortened ring with a slot cut into it to go over the steel pipe  Th...

Re: Any suggestions on insurance??

Saying that, many classic car policies don't recognise a discount via an NCB anyway. The 480 will be surprisingly cheap on a dedicated classic car policy and the the lack of an NCB will be soon forgotten. I have the SS1 on an historic policy which allowed me to travel to and from work, but NOT busi...

Re: Late Bumper Stripes?

Yep, they’re standard. They are anti-vibration pads to stop the nose cone chafing the bumper. I think there should be some more by the indicators. They fall off in time, or the bumper gets painted and they never get restored. I have used some gel blobs for kitchen cupboard doors. The little self ad...

Re: Heated seat wiring

The seat is is unweildy so I prefer to split to before removal. If you wind the backrest back, you will see two roll pins that are the hinge-- they are only held in with a Terry pin. Then you can take the backrest out, test that for resistance; then take the base out and work on it in a more manage...

Re: Missaligned bonnet.

Yes, it is a LHD. Surely it can improve lowering down the wiper spindles(lowering the whole part) 1mm or 2mm, no much more as they are already very close to the bottom plastic. But it means a lot of work for a little improvement. I can live with that, I was curious if it was only my car or a few ex...

Re: Brake caliper refurbishment

Excellent write up as usual, TBH for the outer seal/dust cover I normally fit it after I've fitted the inner seal and pushed in the piston, I guess depends on clearance and how easy fiddly it is to flip it over? The problem is getting the out seal lip to tuck in - If google images was playing ball,...

only issue now will be removing the old ones, I only ever got one of the four bolts freed when tidying up the bumper etc :( I suspect much cutting /destruction will be in order, angle grinder for slicing open the bushes at wheels and the 'sabre saw' to chop through the rear bolts yep much destructi...

Re: Missaligned bonnet.

much juggling 'might' improve things. I assume that there is limited clearance around the wiper spindle? (Left Hand Drive ?) I have same issue on RHS and reduced gap by pulling bonnet forward a little on both sides to allow a little more reduction in height. I think the wiper spindles are 'fixed' fo...

Ah, the joys of fleet management eh? I think a 7mm hex bit (for handbrake adjustment, in case anyone is wondering!). Although I'd have paid good money to watch the reverse tow start.... I'd edit and suggest a 7mm 'Allen Key' to remove rear calipers A 5mm/4mm 'combo' to do the adjustment , t...

Re: Drive seals

Hi My 92 480 1.7 is due in for an mot next week I was just checking oil levels etc and noticed the lhs drive shaft is slightly wet, a small oil weep. Are these seals easy enough to get hold 🤔 I've had a quick search and couldn't see any, or are they the same as Renault it being a Renault unit ? It'...
