Then I have to choose between 15W40 and 15W50. I think the last one will be the best choise, as the 15W40 isn't thicker than the 10W40 which I have now when warm.

I thought 10W40 and 15W40 are both equal thick once warm. That's why I was looking at 20W50. But in case 15W40 is thicker when warm compared to 10W40, then I can try that one first.

It think the Volvo recall was about removing the pistons and change the rings and drill small holes in the side of the piston to let the oil flow back more easily.

Well, no way that such a modification will be done on this 2L. That is why I want to know if anyone has tried thicker oil.

Oil burning 2L (red dipstick) - different oil?

I was wondering if anyone with an oil eating 2L engine has tried a thicker type of oil. Our 2L goes from max to min on the dipstick in 1500km. This is when using 10W40 oil. I'm thinking of changing the filter and oil and to use 20W50. Has anyone tried this and did it reduce the amount of oil being b...

Re: .

That first pic, does the lift just come out the floor ? looks like it does.. Yes it is. It's a one pillar lifting device. It has a platform on the pillar where you can drive you car on and put rubber blocks underneath the lift points. You can lift the car up for about 1.6m I think. It's a photo of ...

Today I got the black stripes sprayed on: http://lh6.ggpht.com/_K8h5Pu_tBbU/Si6t8gORUjI/AAAAAAAAAKo/zUKy22i5RT8/s800/09062009077.jpg This is how the car looks like now with the stripes. I think the black stripes finish the looks. http://lh6.ggpht.com/_K8h5Pu_tBbU/Si6t84WAxtI/AAAAAAAAAKs/e5FFpnwjgoA/...

Looks very good. Can imagine how long you've worked on the car to do this. I was in the same position to choose whether I did get my 480 fixed and resprayed or buy another one. I chose to do the first, but if I had bought another one, it would have been a white one too. I've always liked white on th...

Today I finished assembling the car. A few things needs to be done, but I can drive the car again :D One thing that needs to be done is the attaching the sill plates (Thanks to LASEROWL). On the photo it's laying loose. I think double sided tape (special for installing trims on cars) would be the be...

Today I got a step closer to finishing the car. I also replaced the rear shocks as the wheels were still off the car. Front shocks will be done next week. New shock: http://lh4.ggpht.com/_K8h5Pu_tBbU/Sibn43JagHI/AAAAAAAAAIk/9SYlJSwApg8/s800/03062009052.jpg Old shocks, they must have been replaced be...

Do you mean the front or rear arches? The front arches will be covered with the black plastic inner covers. The rear arches have been treated (after the photo was taken) with Tectyl spray to prevent them from rusting. They are as black as possible now. Another thing that would make it look better is...

Today I did some painting myself. The edge underneath the tailgate was fixed and resprayed in red. I didn't like the idea of red shining through between the lights and the tailgate, so painted it black again. http://lh3.ggpht.com/_K8h5Pu_tBbU/SiQ7sLgiZ3I/AAAAAAAAAHc/z8oS07ZNrps/s800/01062009050.jpg ...

Today I worked on reassembling the car. It is starting to look like a car again :D Today I almost finished the front end, only the inner plastic arches, the plastic trim underneath the windscreen and the licenseplate have to be done. http://lh4.ggpht.com/_K8h5Pu_tBbU/SiK8NSFEddI/AAAAAAAAAGk/_jCjT2sM...

Yes, it is that bearing. I also want to replace these, but the top mounts too. What did you pay for the top mounts at the dealer?

Well, Eurocarparts just listed it wrong. I've mailed them to ask which SKF part number their top mount is, as SKF doesn't list the top mounts for the 400 series. In the reply was a SKF number which is from the bearing between the lower side of the spring and the strut (what is the name of this beari...

(and because I haven't made much photo's  ) It gives an idea about the color it is now. You can see the reflection of the Subaru at the side of the 480. The black s...

You can still buy the seatbelt arms are the dealer (at least the right hand one here in the Netherlands, did that last week). I paid 6.90Euro for a new one.

I know, but I won't order it at that site because the p&p costs to the Netherlands are 20Pounds + vat. I can order SKF stuff here locally. For that reason I need to know if the Renault ones are the same, as SKF doesn't list any for the 400 series. Eurocarparts lists the same SKF top mount (according...

Compatible top strut mounts

I was looking at top mounts for the front struts a few weeks ago and then I found some on Ebay that would fit both the Renault R19 and Megane, as wel as the Volvo 400 series. Now I cannot find them anymore. The reason I ask is that on http://www.eurocarparts.com they list an SKF top mount set for th...

Today I went to the repair shop again to bring an used bumper to replace my rotten away one. As a new inner bumper would cost 150Euro and takes too long to deliver (has to come from Sweden) a used bumper would be the best. Today the last parts like the front right wing (was damaged) and the rear sid...
