Re: Nora, my numberless Celebration

Having got my teeth into this, I've collected some more info from other Celebration owners. 163 and 170 were both registered in Aug 95, chassis nos are 592941 and 592965. So, 7 Celebrations in 24 chassis if they were numbered in sequence. Assuming that demand didn't change much in a month, that imp...

Re: Nora, my numberless Celebration

Thanks Sylvia - valuable information :D It's very useful that Kevin's car's chassis number is so close to Nora's...as you say, very likely she was a number very close to his, so perhaps 275 or 276. I will still pursue that elusive dashboard plaque, although I'll be amazed if I manage to locate it! T...

Re: Nora, my numberless Celebration

More progress today - thermostat changed and now Nora warms up properly :D Also finished off cleaning the engine compartment - I don't go overboard but I do like to be able to see what I am working on, and it's a good opportunity to check for any existing leaks or damage and also to spot any that oc...

Re: Nora, my numberless Celebration

I've just received the latest magazine from the Volvo Enthusiasts Club, lo and behold there is a photo of the back of an N reg 480 at a meet. It's Flame Red and the boot badge just reads 480, so I guessed it was a Celebration. I've just checked online and it was registered as a Celeb in September 9...

I was hoping Snazzy would make her UK meet debut in May, but if not it will be Lily with nothing strangling her engine and roaring to go.
;)
Ah well, in that case I'll have to settle for the view of her rear speeding away from my poor old n/a 2.0...

Re: Lily's transformation

Excellent - well done! You can't beat the satisfaction of an MOT pass :D

Will we be seeing your Lily in all her glory in Derbyshire? It's be good to see her performing properly rather than watching you in my mirror struggling to keep up at every slight hill! ;)

Re: Nora, my numberless Celebration

Thanks Sylvia Yes, the stories about extra GTs and Celebrations have always persisted, and Volvo were always good at continuing to produce cars that were in demand - look at how the 240 carried on for years alongside the 740/760 that were intended to replace it. As you say, naughty but good business...

Re: Nora, my numberless Celebration

Thanks all :D Alan, I promised you first refusal and will stick to my word, fear not ;) ! Done a bit more today: installed cupholder armrest, replaced shattered passenger door pocket (I was convinced the spare I had was a driver's door one but it was actually the passenger side - makes a change to g...

its a criminal shame.....

With so few turbos left, people should be snapping these things up and holding on to them.
Well, you were mumbling on my thread about "multiple 480 households" - here's your chance  ;)

Thanks Jeff

I have used Postimage - any idea how to make the photos bigger? Or a suggestion for a different route for getting photos back onto the forum?

CeDriC the numberless Celebration

As mentioned a few months back, I rescued a 480 Celebration from the perils of eBay; or, to put it more accurately, Hutton Brothers (my local excellent Volvo independent) knew they only had to let me see it when I took Lily my GT in for her MOT :D https://i.postimg.cc/gXcTgrxh/Nora-at-Huttons-Novemb...

Brilliant - thanks as always Sylvia; we'll be there, probably joining up at Tissington as usual. James - we will do our best to ensure your wife is confirmed in her belief that you - like the rest of us - are 480 mental  Martin - sounds mysterious...look forward to hopefully seeing you again :D...

Re: 2019 meetings

I'm hoping to make a return to the fold in the near future, once my impending house move is complete and I have a garage to store the next extramarital car in ;) Not sure if I will make it to the May meeting in the Dales, but it would be a great point of focus to aim for...Watch this space! Re: My 480 journey begins here

Thanks Nigel

I am a bit wary of asking good money for something I don't positively know is in full working order. How about this - if you let me know your address I'll post it over to you; if it doesn't work, then no charge, if it does, then £10?

Well spotted James - I hadn't noticed that! Must be great for people following Mister H who get a free windscreen wash each time he wants to clean his back window! :D

Re: My 480 journey begins here

Glad you've sorted the pop-ups - it's amazing how critical the DRLs are! I think you are right with the switch being at fault for the light flash/main beam - I had this on my very first 480 and a new switch (and back in those days - 1993'ish - it was a new switch, from Volvo, ouch!) solved the probl...

Re: 1988 Volvo 480 ES - A New Era Dawns

And there is obviously something not bolted to those two points in your picture. I can't work it out in my head though! Is that the bracket that takes the gearbox mount? There are some strengthening bars on the bottom of the gearbox/engine but I couldn't say for certain from that picture is they ar...

Re: 2019 meetings

Nigel

I see you are in Leeds - we are just outside York. If you do plan to attend the meets (certainly I'd recommend the Derbyshire one in particular, although they've all been great!) perhaps we could get together and travel in mini-convoy to join the rest?

All the best
