Re: Front speakers
You can connect the tweeters to both the two and three way speakers, both will be fine. My observation on using two way speakers is that unless we hack the door to fit larger speakers, we are limited to 13cm (5.25"), basically why pay for the third speaker if it is too small or high pitched to hear ...

Re: Front speakers
You will find the sound the tweeters are able to produce will be limited by their size so although it would be preferable to have a crossover, they will have natural physical limitations. As far as connect or disconnect the choice is yours. I have just fitted some new speakers and connected them mai...

Re: Driving from SE England to the north, advice needed
It is swings and roundabouts, I use the M25, M1, A1m and M11 most days of the week and there is not much to choose between them. M25 can be very busy, has a variable speed limit with cameras and often stops for no reason. M1 continuation of variable speed limit, however if the road stops around Luto...

Re: Front bonnet not aligned and this is very annoying
Just loosen the bolts shown slightly so the bonnet just moves and you will be able to adjust it, nip them back up when done
I found this out after the car went to Volvo, they always tried to force the bonnet closed misaligning it.

Re: Undertray
Historically I have owner many classic cars with at best marginal cooling. Over the years I have explored many avenues of releasing excess heat from the engine bay. It can even make a difference if the cooling fan blows the air through the radiator or sucks its out of it. Asbestos sheets stopped the...

Re: Longlife Stainless Exhaust
A nice round 400, I know I can get cheaper mild steel ones but they do not fit.
Dropped the 480 off first thing and ready mid afternoon.
I bet they loved the waxoyl but it beats rust. Luckily the day was dry as there is nothing worse than the car dripping on you whilst working on it.

Longlife Stainless Exhaust
I got tired of the poor fitting mild steel exhaust so today treated the 480 to an excellent Longlife exhaust from Car city Peterborough. I am really fussy and having restored many classic cars I fully appreciate the work involved, I would definitely recommend them Check out the photos at https://www...

Try you tube

Using a jack gently as shown in the video could also help in diagnosis.
Worth a try.

Re: Pop Ups winking......
Mine did similar after Volvo had messed about with it. Definitely check DRL connections and lamps as noted but for me this worked - I turned the lights on with ignition off, this raised one unit, I then turned the lights off and as normal it stays up. The raised light was then lowered manually with ...

Re: Mint 480 in auction....
I was at the auction, with money dissolving in the banks people are getting excited and are paying over the odds. The Volvo was not concourse but it did look honest. I didn't study the paperwork but if the mileage is genuine it will help, with a bit of work it should clean up well. This result can o...

Re: Wanted : Oil pressure sender for auxiliary gauges
I have just had the same problem and solved it this way. 80psi universal oil pressure sender with two poles, one for the oil pressure gauge and the other for the lamp. I selected the 1/8 npt thread size as although there might be one with the correct thread, I could not see the clearance to fit it d...

Re: O'no accident insurance.
Sorry to hear about your accident, I hope you are well. I have checked a couple of sites and found the following for sale. Car and classic cars for sale has one at £1599 there are two on classic cars for sale @ £1500 and an optimistic £4160 Though I expect they would like to see the sold prices. How...

Re: Very strange electrical happenings?!
From your description, assuming its not the cem it does still sound like bad earths. Turning your lights on completes a circuit and possibly provides the earth path for the circuit that has failed. When you say "earths I could see" do you mean at the faulty item or where they connect to the body? My...

Re: BHP figures - matter of curiosity
Yes you are correct, the torque will give you the acceleration. For a road car, torque and where in the rev range this is produced is far more important than bhp. Gearing will also be something to take into consideration. This will be why the new diesels pull so well and electric cars like the Tesla...

Re: high pitched noise
Is the sound coming through the speakers? The radio could be picking up the interference from the alternator or other electrical systems. Pretty well everything can create interference but the alternator will be favourite, it can create all kinds of bangs, whistles and whines which can be amplified ...

Re: Radiator/coolant fan won't go off
Short answer, Yes.
If the wiring diagrams in that well known book are correct, it looks like the thermal switch is the only other component in the circuit.
If that is not the case, the only other possibility I could think of would have been a fan motor relay not releasing.

Re: Bonnet insulation
The plastic bonnet on its own is not good at blocking the electrical interference from the engine and its associated electrical systems. The metal / foil sheet was utilised to capture and dissipate this interference and also eliminate any static build up. Modern radios are now better filtered to blo...
