Re: WANTED: Full list of parts & accessories that I'm after.

I have the snow mats and they are very good for keeping mud off the carpet, but also keeping it damp. Also don't bother driving with the drivers snow mat in place as it is a horrible experience. As for the cassette holder, I think you can carry more cassettes in the standard cubby than in the specia...

And to you too! It was great meeting with you guys earlier in the year and despite having two major failures, the 480 didn't actually let me down, which is more than can be said for my latest addition...

Re: New 480 Turbo owner

Hi, welcome to the Forum, great to see another younger member and while I have never been, Slovenia is a country I'd love to visit! Two Tone Turbos are very unusual, first one I have come across. The indicator being intermittent is probably a problem with the connector to the bulb, in my case it som...

Re: 1992 480ES - no MOT since 2017. Thoughts?

Yeah the 1.7 catalysers are the only ones that really struggle with power - the stereotype that these cars are underpowered stems from them really. An early car with the 1.7 B18E engine and no cat is the ideal one when it comes to power, although the 2.0s from 1993 onwards are superb cruisers

Re: 1992 480ES - no MOT since 2017. Thoughts?

Well for a start 650 is exactly what I paid for mine in 2019, which didn't run but had solid bodywork. The speedo is going to be caused by one of two things, both of which are easily sorted, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. The paint is a bit tired, but the thing that concerns me the most is...

Re: My first Wild Wedge: K Reg Two Tone in Salibury (A338 Cathedral Close)

Well done on the spot Ben, it's so rare to see another one now it's quite exciting when it happens isn't it. Another possibility from the Rare Editions register is K618 ???, spotted on here in 2018 in Berkshire but again, not a good enough look to get the end of the reg. That might have been it, al...

My first Wild Wedge: K Reg Two Tone in Salibury (A338 Cathedral Close)

On the way back from a hospital run for my Mother, I was stunned to see my first Ever 480 on the road (that wasn't anything to do with the club or in Bosnia) I was approaching the Cathedral Close roundabout when going the other was a 1992 480 Two Tone, K616 *** something, is it anyone we know? I did...

Re: How to buy a 480

[ do agree many of those shows, most tragically Wheeler Dealers, are just Big Budget BS now. Not just BS, but advertising by stealth. Interestingly, something you're not allowed to do on Youtube. However I must say that Car SOS is by far and away the most authentic car restoration program out there...

Re: How to buy a 480

Great post Jeff, one point that really needs to be reconsidered: surely no one actually 'want's' to be like Mike Brewer! Sadly, all people see is making money for doing nothing.... People forget that Wheeler Dealers, flipping bangers, Car SOS, etc etc, are entertainment - NOT - factual car restorat...

Re: How to buy a 480

Brilliant guide Jeff for more than just 480s, I admit I did sort of jump in with the Audi, yes we have experience with the quattro, but it seemed all doable (which it probably is) but the main reason I did was because if it went wrong I knew I could bail out and sell for most of or all of what I pai...

Re: Survival rates

I can't comment on the respective maintenance costs of a turbo 480 because I've never had one. However, in terms of the possible desirability of later models, the general perception is that the later models were better made, with all the earlier problems and niggles ironed out, so more reliable, an...

Re: Survival rates

Possibly because they're later cars and thus have another few years before rust becomes terminal. Possibly because they're seen as more desirable (and whole lot LESS expensive to maintain than a Turbo) And are turbos more expensive to maintain? I've never heard that about them, other than the usual...

Re: AWD conversion

Yeah I reckon it would be doable just not to a turbo, as they really need to be preserved. That being said, I'd love to see a 4x480 happen. Trouble is I am not sure what drivetrain you could use to make it work. The 300 series was RWD so you could go for mix of the two as they did have interchangeab...

Well done Ben, or should that be "Your Excellency", given what a good 480 Ambassador you are proving to be?
