The ones on the TPS didn't show any resistance at all. At first, I thought that the DMM was freaking out so I tried a piece of metall on the engine, still nothing. I went through the entire range (from K ohm -> M Ohm), but still it didn't show a thing. It didn't matter if I checked the resistance b...

You don't need to remove the sensor - just unplug the lead going to it. You need to squeeze the wire loop that is on the connector and it will pull off allowing you access to the pins.

I don't think anyone was actually criticising Gaz or anyone else administering the forum. We all quite simply missed the forum (I know I did!) and when we got it back people wanted to talk about it. No-one said anything pressumably because they either didn't have contact informattion to hand or felt...

OK... • Leave the TPS attached to the engine. • Disconnect the multi-plug from the TPS so you can get at the pins. • Use one hand to hold the probes from the multimeter. • Use the other hand to open the throttle. • Measure resistance. As I said before, I'm not sure if the resistance values...

The engines in 480s were either 1721cc (B18**) or 1998cc (B20F). The only variant of these engines that could reasonably be described as 1.8 was the 1794cc (B18U) which as far as I know was only ever fitted to 440s. ;-) You shouldn't have to remove the throttle body to remove the TPS. Might be a lit...

It's not rubber, it's black plastic. Screwed to the side of the throttle body in my picture of the 1.7. On the 2.0 it's on the underside of the throttle body - not sure about other engine variants but in your picture it appears to be in the same place as on my 1.7. If you have a look at the engine a...

Hello! - Black 'J' Reg ES in North Berwick

Saw yet another 480 in the East of Scotland on Monday morning, driven by a young woman. I served her when she was in filling up with petrol. She mentioned she knew of the club/forum but had never posted, so hopefully she'll be enthused enough to get involved now. In case you're reading this, hello, ...

The throttle position sensor is a small black thing with a 3 pin multiconnector on it. It attaches to the throttle body and mechanically connects to the throttle butterfly - it is held on with two screws/small bolts. Not sure which engine you have but they all look pretty much the same. Here is a pi...

What's the charging issue? With a refurbed alternator it must surely just be a dodgy connection...

Take as much as you have room to store would be my simple answer. You never know when something's going to fail and it can make keeping your good car on the road significantly cheaper. It also depends on how much time you can afford to spend stripping. If you can't keep the whole engine strip off al...

Right then, Sally and I are in on that. It'll be good to catch up and meet some of the newer members. Just spoken to the Don and we're going to meet up in Morrison's car park on Ferry Road at 10am. http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dll?G2M?X=323180&Y=675885&A=Y&Z=1 We can get some munchies / picn...

Hey Pete, welcome to the club! :-D

And yet another Edinburgh member!

Hope you find the right 480 for you soon.
I'd be very tempted by Murf's offer - I'd buy it myself for that price (even though it is white ;-)) ... if only had the money and space to store another one!

The standard fan switch does illuminate. It has a small bulb hard wired into the casing which has probably blown. It is replaceable but requires a bit of soldering. @Martin - It was the infocentre switch I did the mod on. http://www.subatomic.force9.co.uk/dash_night.jpg http://volvo480.northernscum....

Yep, well done wedge. Took the brain an embarrassingly long time but every number you get is a multiple of 9 and all associated symbols are the same.

Still be pretty effective on an inebriated mate... :-D
