You don't need to remove the sensor - just unplug the lead going to it. You need to squeeze the wire loop that is on the connector and it will pull off allowing you access to the pins.

The engines in 480s were either 1721cc (B18**) or 1998cc (B20F). The standard fan switch does illuminate. It has a small bulb hard wired into the casing which has probably blown. Yep, well done wedge. Took the brain an embarrassingly long time but every number you get is a multiple of 9 and all associated symbols are the same.
