MacPherson Strut bits and pieces...

Got myself a set of shiny new Koni specials as I was needing to replace a couple anyway. Back ones were on in about half an hour - then came the front... The bearings at the base of the springs seem pretty worn/dry and are making nasty grinding noises (although they do turn freely) and the spring cu...

I've managed to get locking wheel bolts out by nudging them round with a chisel (being careful not to hit the wheel ;-))

Kind of depends on the type of head on the bolt whether this works or not.

You could always weld the head of a 19mm bolt on top and use that to remove it...

Terrible things that have happened today. Luckily my sister slept in this morning and decided to walk to work - her office is pretty close to a lot of the stuff that was going on. I a way I'm surprised something like this hasn't happened before, it seemed almost inevitable that something would ...

I'm definitely coming to any meet within a 100 miles. :-D Anytime time is good for me as I'm currently a gentleman of leisure. ;-) If anyone fancies going on a little tour of some back roads I know pretty much everywhere east of the bid E... Loch Lomond / Callander / West of the big G would also be ...

I really don’t think this system will get off the ground or if it does it will not last long. AFAIK some insurance companies are now offering voluntary subscription to systems like this that allow the tracking of the vehicle - thus adjusting the cost of your policy dependent on the roads you drive.

And they go for up to £30 a pair on ebay...

Definitely always worth ckecking with volvo, just because they have a reputation for expensive parts doesn't mean all parts are expensive.

Hard to believe anyone would pay £30 for a small handful of plastic...

I had the inch tape out at my dad's V70 with the 5cyl 2.4L 20v (170bhp and loads of torque) - sadly I think a fairly large shoe horn would be required to get it in a 480 :-( On the upside at least it's front wheel drive, and it's a Volvo engine that Porsche had involvment in the development of... th...

Doh! :wall: Never thought of looking in the manual! It'd still be interesting to see the curves to make a more useful comparison. My 2.0L seems pretty dead until it hits around 3000 rpm and it then takes off - sadly I'm too worried about long term damage to regularly rev beyond 4000 rpm, so much sti...

Sorry, I don't know a price for the spring, but it seems very unlikely that this would have broken as it is a fairly subtantial item for what it has to do.

Most likely when you take the plastic cover of the pillar you will see it has merely parted company from the arm...

The three different parts of the arm are all available separately from Volvo.

Arm - £4.85
Guide - £2.75
Roller - £1.35

All prices are plus VAT so £10.52 for the whole assembly - doesn't really break the bank, and you may well only need the arm... :-D

Has anyone ever seen power and torque curves for the 1.7T and the 2.0?

The turbo may have a higher maximum torque, but I would be surprised if the torque curve wasn't more "peaky" with the maximum maybe as high as 4500 rpm?

Would be very interested to compare if someone could post them...

AFAIK a huge number of european cars have had "lotus tuned" suspension.

I think it's a big part of Lotus's business.

I bought the bosch leads from a halfrauds in Edinburgh a few weeks ago and they had the 90 degree ends at the plugs - fit and run fine on my 2.0

Maybe it was the wrong box? :?

I'm sure nobody here is age-ist Richard, as long a you love your 480 we'll love you ;-) My first car was a '68 Triumph Herald 13/60 which I had from when I was 15 - passed my test in it shortly after my 17th birthday and drove many happy miles in it before rolling it at fairly high speed and complet...
