Yeah, the problem with welding the roof skin itself, is that it would warp very easily from the heat.

Wouldn't surprise me.
You'd be surprised at the amount of stuff that's glued on modern cars.

Re: Turbo meter wont' go pass halfway.
You probably have a boost leak somewhere, my money would be a busted recirc valve leaking boost away.

Re: Orange Richmod
Not necessarily.
Only way to tell is to watch the boost guage at it's running.
A richmod or Roboumod will sent the needle into the red.
Without, it won't!
Later Roboumods have a flylead coming out of them, early ones didn't I don't think.
Got a price for the gearbox sensor for me yet?

Re: Average Fuel Economy?
You need to remember that the engines are a VERY old design now, especially the 1.7 and Turbo. The 2.0 is a slightly more refined revision, but still essentially the same engine. Two valves per cylinder, non-crossflow head, etc... Another big problem with them is the gearing, the final drive ratio i...

Re: After more than a year of lurking, time to say Hello!
I was recently reading some random threads about Volvo 480 in ths madhouse spanish car forum (forocoches). Mainly of people asking on opinions about the car in intention to buy one. This guy told the story about when he went into his town Volvo dealer where they had a 480 Turbo for sale. When asked...

Thanks.
Yeah, tried the P/N there, no joy.
Everywhere has no stock
Beginning to think it's going to be easier to change the head!

Re: After more than a year of lurking, time to say Hello!
Hmm...
Perhaps it's a little different then for the B18FT. That's based on the earlier F2N engine, not sure if the shims are the same.
My B20F that's covered twice the mileage has always ran quieter so perhaps the arrangement is a little different.

Re: After more than a year of lurking, time to say Hello!
Hi and welcome
Good work on your 480!
I'd be very interested to hear how you adjusted your valve clearences, mine are very noisy now (B18FT) and I'm finding it impossible to find the shims for adjustment
