Well the two cars I have bin working on had a heat shield between the exhaust pipe and the handbrake adjuster. Hi
When I changed the handbrake cables, i had the same problem. I hat to drill one bolt out, and i use normal "body screws" (I don't know the correct name) but you can easily use self tabbing screws. I am not familiar with Jim's trick. worth a try.

Okay Thanks Volviz :) well, it is broken, so I have to get a spare. Also I have bin told that the Idle controller still can be the problem, I got it on ebay, brand new. but the dealer and mechanic I have bin talking to says that because it is not an original spare-part it still can be the reason for...

It did not work when i drove to MOT, and they tested the exhaust gas values. the car passed.
the thing has always been broken... But I really don't know if it will change the crazy idle am experiencing.
I cant use it any more do to its bad condition.
