Re: Rescue Car: R1

Yep, no rear speakers in the early cars - hence Volvo produced the ones that replaced the rear cubby boxes as there was no existing side-panel cut-out. I think you'll find the wiring is already there and just stops... Will drop relay into post for you, no problem. Agree with you re the rear arch sti...

Re: A Sorry Looking Celebration (Given a Lifeline!)

Once again, well done to the rescue team :D

Always liked the storm grey Celeb, yet all 3 I have been privileged to own have been red ones.

If I can help with this one, do shout.

Best,

Re: What period aftermarket radio/casette to use?

https://i.postimg.cc/k49BLg4H/IMG-5264.jpg The other day, my local(ish) radio shop found me a radio that would go straight into the 480 without the compatibility issues of the Blaupunkt unit. It has just had a full service and is wonderful! The Blaupunkt however is also a very good unit, so that wi...

Re: Rescue Car: R1

Well done to all involved in this project - rescuing the remaining 480s where possible is a must! :D Those rear arches look excellent, which makes the whole exercise easier from the start. Reading through the entire thread, I was going to say that I have spare wheel caps that should fit, but then no...

Re: A Sorry Looking Celebration

Hmmm...auction ends 3pm or so, 14th, which is this Friday afternoon. I take it that the bidders are not on here - or at least not so as are willing to admit? As has been said it looks too good to be broken; just the fact it is one of the dwindling number of Celebrations means it ought to be saved if...

Re: I have strayed (well, technically only very slightly...)

I've long thought that the 440/460 are so unloved, compared to our beloved 480s on here, that if we're not careful they'll disappear completely; This 100x I always doff my cap to people restoring the underdog. I was looking forward to "Hagarty's Festival of the Unexceptional 2020" but sadly that to...

Re: I have strayed (well, technically only very slightly...)

Thanks to everyone for their positive and supportive comments :D Once Wilhelmina is up to scratch perhaps I'll bring her to one of our meets next year (working on the assumption we WILL be able to get these up and running again!) so we can all scratch our heads over something so nearly the same, and...

Re: Seemingly nice red '88 car on Facebook

Sadly (?) whenever I chat with Jeff about cars he always has a bad influence on me... ;) I start getting ideas - and then Lee tells me off! After all, as my wife she's always telling me I shouldn't have ideas; if I adopt "yes, dear" as the motto for life I won't go far wrong ;) ;) David ah, I see t...

Re: They're like busses...

Hi Martin

Better sooner rather than later I guess before the car just sells!

I'll give it some thought and get back to you directly...

Hope all's well - I've told you before though, you won't be allowed to keep Nilani if all you're going to do is hurt her ;)

Best

Re: I have strayed (well, technically only very slightly...)

That is a gorgeous colour, I take it it isn't Paris blue? While I think I prefer the Pre facelift, that car is very nicely proportioned, unfair to call it the 'ugly' sister... Thanks Ben, no it's 325 Pacific Blue metallic - it came out in 1995 for the 440/460 - I think it replaced Paris Blue on the...

and yet there are no pics of the beast...... I mean, I know it's the 480's ugly sister, but come on Dave, we're all friends here! Gordon Bennett, no peace... ;) When I got her home (Wilhelmina, by the way) I gave her a much-needed wash, with a few quick photos for the baby album. Re: Seemingly nice red '88 car on Facebook

Straight to the heart of the matter there - I can accommodate 3 here, which I currently have (480, 440 & C70). It's each time car number 4 comes along that I get hassled... ;)

Re: Anyone had experience with Mk1 Cavaliers?

Given the other thread we are chatting on as well, I'd certainly agree that the Cavalier falls into the same box as the 440/460 - worthy enough, did their job, but never "loved". Good point about nicking Fords, but somehow even though it was the ultimate "rep-mobile" the Cortina was also loved... Wh...

Re: I have strayed (well, technically only very slightly...)

Thanks Ben As I am getting to grips with it the 440 is a mixture of "oh, that's the same as the 480" and "hmmm, that's different to the 480". Some areas are a mixture of both - such as the dashboard which is very much the same principle but far more robust. An area that is pleasantly different is th...

I have strayed (well, technically only very slightly...)

Time to come clean, folks, I have a new addition to the family... ... a 1995 440 ES 2.0. Way back in the early 1990s, when I had my first 480, I always had 440s or 460s as loan cars when my 480 was in the workshop (which for that car was - or at least seemed - half its life...). I have to admit I li...

Re: Anyone had experience with Mk1 Cavaliers?

The least said about Allegros the better - mine was AWFUL. And as for the Scimitar Al bought, complete and utter rust bucket. my first car was a 1975 Allegro in poor condition - written off in a crash after 6 months. OK, it got me started in car ownership but that's about all I'll give the ol...

Re: They're like busses...

I'm always a bit suspicious of "selling for a friend" - as Van says, if Rob wants to sell his car what's stopping him doing it himself? Dodgy seller history? Doesn't really exist? At first glance this looks quite good but a couple of things from the photos - Rear arches look to be original and are c...

Re: Seemingly nice red '88 car on Facebook

Looks pretty good... Missing stone chip foils suggests rear arches have been replaced. Wondering whether it's had a re-spray at some point given how deep the red still looks (but that may just be cleaning/the photos/how it's been stored, of course). Interior looks good - nothing unexpectedly untowar...
