Re: Day running lights

In Sweden, DRL's are compulsory and Volvo have been trying for years to get the EU to make them compulsory as well. The headlamps don't operate with a blown or incorrect drl bulb to alert the driver to stop and sort the DRL (damn silly idea, but there we are) If you have a 480 where the pop ups wor...

Re: So, today was the day...

Yep, PostNL hands the package over to Yodel which operate so cheap that they must drop all quality requirements and took that literally.
I could try DHL next time, but chances are you will end up with another cheap courier. And I will add another layer of bubble wrap...

Offside and nearside have the same motors; actually, the right hand side has a longer cord but you can put a left hand side motor in and pull a bit harder on the loom

Re: Speedometer not working or does not go over 90

Yeah, they swapped from 46 (not 45 ) to 60 litre tanks in 1991, with the introduction of the Phase 2 facelift model. Not exactly model year 1991, they started with the Phase 2 model from identification number 567600 onwards. So if you put an okder info centre computer in, it will calculate the ...

Re: Can j put V40 T4 engine into 480?

The engine used in the Volvo 400-series (and the 1.7 in the 300-series) are derived from Renault F-type engines, with modified cilinder head. 1721cc = F3N 1794cc = F3P 1998cc = F3R Gearboxes I think are derived from Renault JB3 (all except Turbo) and JC5 (Turbo) but I am not sure which engines/model...

Re: Can j put V40 T4 engine into 480?

Yes you can, with the right amount of tools, skills and time. Alternatively, you could look at Renault F-type engines, because they fit the gearbox and drive axles.

Re: Ooooops I did it again

I serviced my dad's 480(*) today and rubbed the pale rear left light cluster with boiled linseed oil, that gives the same great effect. The right hand side cluster has been produced in 1985, they never seem to fade! (*)actually it's my Paris Blue but he borrows it on permanent basis, pays taxe...

Congratulations! A cambelt change is due, they're supposed to be changed every 6 years.

I know a set of good rear lights, but they come with a complete car and you have to travel quite a bit: https://www.marktplaats.nl/a/auto-s/vol ... blauw.html

Re: Contact Reel NEEDED ASAP

The 440/460 from MY 1994 onwards have the same airbag system, back in the days when it wasn't made out of unobtainium, it was 125 Euro a piece already... But I can design a circuit that lights the SRS lamp for a moment and then turns off, so the MOT technician will be tricked to believe the airbag s...

ditching power steering is an immediate fail for MoT (I think) :-( somat about 'obviously modified from power steering', i'll look up page number when i get a chance, it's in the MoT testers manual available online It would if you have only left out the hydraulic pump, but changing the steering rac...

Re: My second 480...... project 'sleeper'

Should make the B204 capable of about 450-500hp  I would recommend converting the 480 to RWD or AWD then... 450 hp on the front wheels of a light car only gives you loads of tire smoke if you touch the accelerator with your little toe  Also, are the 480 chassis and brakes capable of ha...

Re: My second 480...... project 'sleeper'

Nice job! If it's going to be too much trouble, ditch the power assisted steering as well. You can get a non-assisted steering rack out of a basic-spec 440 from a breakers yard. I've just been reading https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-approval/overview and what's on top of the page. "The government has pub...

Re: Volvo specialist

Why on earth would someone let a specialist shoehorn a 2.0 Volvo engine into the 480's engine bay to replace the 1.7 Renault F3N unit? I would rather source a more powerful, but physically similar sized Renault F-engine (e.g. the F7R-engine from a Clio Williams) mated to a Renault JC5 gearbox = Volv...
