Re: vinyal wrapping a tatty dashbord surround?

Wow! That looks really nice! :D I restored my dashboard using “plastic welding” with some wire melted in for reinforcement. It turned out OK. However, since my surround had been missing most of the mounts, I had to guess how they used to look like :) It was especially difficult around fog light swit...

Re: Wanted: Rear Engine Mount

There is an online store from Poland that sells engine mounts made out of polyurethane. They have the front one and the rear-horseshoe type: https://www.volvofan.pl/Poduszka-skrzyni-omega-poliuretanowa-VOLVO-440-460-480-OE-po-regeneracji-p2605.html https://www.volvofan.pl/Poduszka-skrzyni-Przednia-o...

Re: removing rear lock

The next step is to remove the metal bracket that holds the microswitch. If I remember correctly then all elements detach.

Towbar approval

Hi, I recently purchased a towbar (tow hitch). It’s not a Volvo one, but from an aftermarket supplier. It needs some sand blasting and painting, since it’s covered in rust. Nevertheless, I think I will get it installed without a problem. However, I am a bit concerned with getting it approved. Does a...

Re: Immobiliser & central locking problems - unable to start car

I would start by getting to the microswitches by the lock. Remove the plastic cover of the lock on inside of he car and see if all the meachnical parts are in place. When you turn the key a plastic “ring” presses a microswitch which sends a signal to the CEM. If mechanical parts are ok, then check t...

Re: 480 Turbo running problem

So if you can get that wire sorted out hopefully you'll have a really nice surprise! Yes, I had it today :D I went for a drive. In a mix of suburban areas and some flat country roads, I managed to average 7.2 l/100 km (about 39 mpg). I was really gentle with acceleration, but clearly the fuel consu...

40 mpg? 45 mpg? My 480 hasn't ever been even close to these figures. I need to double check if it's is not a turbo after all

Re: 480 Turbo running problem

It’s reflected in manually calculated average consumption, which jumped from 9–10 l/100km range up to 12–14 l/100km. But it’s also visible on the IC, so it seems that the ECU intentionally uses too much fuel (i.e. these are not leaking injectors). I have checked all wiring and resistances related to...

Re: 480 Turbo running problem

Turned out it the wiring to the lambda sensor. It's the green one and is some form of armoured cable and it was corroded somewhere. Today I discovered that my 2.0 also has a problem with the green lambda wire (I hope the reason for insanely high fuel consumption is finally identified :) ). The wire...

It's not exactly what you are asking for, but here is an interesting post about 480's A/C from a French forum:

Re: Rev Counter Inoperative

I had an issue with the rev counter and it turned out to be the connectors on the back plate of the instrument cluster. As far as I remember there are four connectors: long metal pins that extend from the counter “module” and slide into sockets at the electronic board (i.e. the backplate of he clust...

Re: Genuine Volvo Washer Jets Available to Order (P/N: ‎3400

They have some new parts and they also broke some 480s in the past, but don't get your hopes too high. They do not update the catalog for the 400 series anymore, so they don't have everything. Nevertheless, I can recommend them, because they ship very quickly and they are reliable :)

My throttle sensor has resistance between 900 and 2500 Ohms. It's the 2.0 engine, but if I remember correctly all engines should have the same resistance (Haynes contains the specs)

Re: Window regulator

I suspect that in my car I have one of these Valeo regulators (judging by the shape of it). All functions are there—"one-click" opening and closing with a door key. The only difference is that it seems to be faster than the original Volvo regulator, so one window goes noticeably faster :)

Re: Intriguing discovery about spark plugs-got the right one

I have also noticed that the plugs are different length, despite being all listed for Volvo 480. I had Bosch plugs for some time and I replaced them with Champion rn7lcc, which are noticeably longer. However, I didn't notice a big difference in the way the engine is running.

Re: It's finnaly happening: Rough idle

I join this topic, although I have a non-turbo 2.0 engine. I guess that on a non-turbo engine, the breather cannot cause idling issues, since the air from the breather connects to the intake before the throttle. Am I right? Nevertheless, I am thinking about replacing my breather, since it lets some ...

There is one bulb illuminating rotary switch and the three buttons. There are two plastic prisms that distribute the light around. One prism leads the light info the rotary switch and the other leads the light up to the buttons. If you remove the button, the prism should be partly visible. Perhaps y...
