Re: 1987 480 ES Project -- D-reg, 2nd oldest in UK

Thanks everyone for your advice and many offers of wheels! Jeff, I shall be brave and attempt start like you say. Funnily enough I called Lake's by mistake (meant to call ex-Volvo dealer in the sticks: Kings of Witcham) about replacement. Surprisingly the nice guys at Lake's are going to get my keys...

Re: 1987 480 ES Project -- D-reg, 2nd oldest in UK

‎ I haven't got everything in place but I think I'm going to pop to Lake's on Monday and going to go and get it mobile (rolling) on Tuesday‎. Extra muscle appreciated of course. I'm ashamed to say I didn't notice the delamination and had the little bit of rust at the top of the screen on the right a...

Re: 1987 480 ES Project -- D-reg, 2nd oldest in UK

Thanks Rachel!‎ Unfortunately I could only see the left side as it is parked hard up against the wall on the right and is very immobile with four flat tyres. A bit of rust on the arches, but not so bad that it will need repair panels, just a few chunks welded in. (famous last words!)‎ I'm hoping to ...

1987 480 ES Project -- D-reg, 2nd oldest in UK

Saved! D101 DWP chassis number 507274. I think this makes it the second oldest car known about in the UK (107 cars behind Keith Cooper's launch car.‎ ‎ More details to follow and will be seeking advice on getting a car that has sat for 20 years going again.  I'm thinking new belt, light oil down the...

Re: sunroof possible leaks

If it is item 4 thet is broken (common part to fail, although I thought you'd have noticed the roof not working up/down, not just a leak) then you can get a replacement here from Ruediger Scheidt who sells 3D printed bits for our cars via Shapeways ‎ SUNROOF PART:‎ https://www.shapeways.com/product/...

Re: Tidy looking Ebay offering

SE is likely the dealer misreading ES on the back of the car or in the case of Twin Tone, Paris Blue, etc. a way of declaring Special Edition‎ to the DVLA. Are celebrations declared as SE to the DVLA? Very small chance that this is a Celebration (it is very late registered) that has had wheels and b...

Re: Manual Gearbox Oil Change - Ins and Outs

Quick search on here has the original oil as ‎3343922-5, which is superceded by 1161681. This is where things get confusing. With your Elf oil, you have GL4 oil, which is suitable for vehicles with "yellow metals" in ‎their boxes. If you look up 1161681 on Scandix, it is a GL5 oil, which is less fri...

Re: Manual Gearbox Oil Change - Ins and Outs

I did manage to buy 400-series oil a few years ago. It was labeled on the bottle! Ring your dealer, you might be in luck

Re: Manual Gearbox Oil Change - Ins and Outs

There's something about bronze bits and needing special oil which is why it is recommended to only buy the oil from the dealer.

Saying that, I think the bronze was only in early boxes, so your oil might be a good bet.

Re: Ace Cafe London TOMORROW!....

Damn! I'd forgotten about this!‎

On reflection legging it to a Volvo event with no notice on my first weekend back from being away might not go down too well!‎

Have fun Rachel and whoever you are taking along. ‎
