Re: Speed sensor
Electronics suffer in time from corroded and/or broken connections, When you want to keep an old car on the road, fear is a bad counselor. You will have to bite the bullet and follow brinkie's advice. Or send him a PM asking him what he can do for you. In his home country he is well known for repai...

Re: Speed sensor
If you have some experience in soldering electronics (or know someone who can do it for you), I would try and solder the joints at the back of the green and grey connectors again. Then you won't have to worry about faulty soldering joints. Chances are, however, that the cog of the replacement instr...

Re: headlight removal
Sure Glasgow Jim has done a 'how to' raise lights THEN open the bonnet. remove the plastic trim from sides of the head light cowls when in raised position, remove offending screws and swap, one of the easiest jobs on a 480! for alignment it should be pretty close as long as you don't disturb the adj...

Re: Car wont start suspect fuel pump - HELP!
or check that the small rubber connection on the end of the inlet manifold nearest drivers front wheel is still connected , it runs up to the sensor at the base of the windscreen, on mine the air pipe fell off so the fuel mapping was all out as the ECU didn't know how much advance/retard to give the...

2 is a pain and needs suspension taken apart, so keep an eye on it, but also maybe the clip is rotten , so worth replacing as only pennies, I bought a pack of ten for £3 ! NB motor factors don't do singles  3 front discs DO need caliper AND holder removed and trust me the bolts are awffy tight...

That's a neat solution a sour surround is getting the same way, but also there are precious few fixings left, most are stripped or the plastic around them has fallen apart with age

Re: F7P or F7R Conversion?
There is a thread on here showing which gearbox/engines ARE compatible to best to search for it? TBH I'm not a fan of 16Valves , seem very 'peaky' and the 2 litre has more torque so maybe get more oomph just by bigger injectors and looking at breathing both in and out? then your own engine managemen...

Re: Chinese Speed sensor, any advice?
if you look at the face of the speedometer it has a 5 digit number, (10753, for a two litre 1993) this is the pulses per mile (in the UK) I assume similar if in km? I seem to recall/reckon that there are twelve teeth on the shaft that runs next to the speed sensor as when do the rolling radius time ...

Take the carpet off the side of the tunnel, plastic 'dome' down at foot well and then couple of velcro areas, it will let you get your hand up to free the tabs if you can't remove with brute force. . . . . .

Re: boot bolts
Snap! I'm doing roughly the same thing in the same area! The two bolts attach to the chassis cross-frame member. Removing them will not affect anything, you still have four more underneath before anything falls off :D Regards, Rob Houston BUT an MoT man might ask about corrosion around that area :-...

Re: Chinese Speed sensor, any advice?
I used a 'speed sensor' BUT bought it as a complete set , ie a sensor and speedo. Unless you are 100% sure it runs on 12V and correct resisitance etc I'd steer clear . . . . . The sensor fitted to the 480 has a square Actually the speed sensor on my 480, witch doesn't have abs, is "passive" (I pres...

Thank you all. If I remember rightly it is in the middle with the rest of the mechanism. aye a wee flappy paddle that you can see when looking down into bonnet catch on slam panel. I usually just stick the pocket knife into the catch when working on the lights with the bonnet open so I can check all operates as p...
