Re: Volvo 480 as my first car :)

u need a lot of money for fixing it Yes and no, depends on how handy you are yourself. Some spare parts can be expensive, others are just really hard to find. Having a good mechanic or garage that you trust for things like MOTs and jobs that you can't do yourself will make a big difference. I'm not...

Re: No Fuel Gauge

Can you elaborate on what you mean by 'continuity' in this case? I ask only as a bad joint on the board might well work on the bench but then not work in the car, or at certain temperatures, or pretty much depending on which way the wind is blowing. Also fairly hard to verify that things are working...

Re: Another "look what's in the boot!" spot

That's a very odd collection of cosmetic 'mods'... It does all look easily reversible with a heat gun and some patience so might well be a bargain for someone looking for an auto turbo.

Much the same as others have said - great to see everyone again and many thanks to Sylvia and Al once again for organising everything. Bring on the next one!

Re: Dendy's 480 Diary

https://i.imgur.com/uqS0py2.jpg Quick bit of brake maintenance before the meet tomorrow. The brakes felt uneven and not particularly effective on the front, so I thought it might be worth sticking in some new pads. The old ones actually had plenty of life in them but were of unknown origin, the new...

Re: Dendy's 480 Diary

That's fantastic - exactly what I was imagining. I've ordered one to see if it will fit since they look a bit taller than usual. I wish I'd known about these while I still had the problem!

Re: Dendy's 480 Diary

Since we have a meet coming up, I thought now would be as good a time as any to start pulling things apart: https://i.imgur.com/nPdBDjo.jpg I've had a few persistent electrical problems that I really wanted to get sorted before doing another long journey, particularly in the dark. They are: - O/S DR...

Re: Power Steering Pump

Apparently I didn't look very hard then! Interestingly both the part numbers in the book don't seem to correspond to anything on VIDA, even though I can see the pump clearly in the diagrams. They just don't have associated numbers for some reason. Either way, looks like 3470031 is probably the one t...

Re: Power Steering Pump

Tried that - can't find any mention of a PAS pump on Skandix and none of the part numbers lead anywhere either. Not much gleaned from searching the forum either. Very strange that there's so little info on it.

I have identified the following two candidates, both for cars without air-con: VIN to 428729: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volvo-440-460-480-Power-Steering-Pump-3413725-4700031-26039589/263081685595?hash=item3d40e3f25b:g:~AsAAOSwVtZaBzB2 Part numbers: 3413725, 4700031, 26039589 VIN from 428730: https:...

Re: A 480 S awakened in Italy

Looks good, impressive that it pushes 60W per channel (or at least claims to) for that money. Shame that the illumination is blue though, I'd be tempted to pull it apart and put red and green LEDs in to match the rest of the interior!

Re: A 480 S awakened in Italy

Welcome! That's a beautiful car, and it's in great condition as others have said. Interesting that the original owner went for an 'S' and then added aircon, a front splitter and a nice interior! I'd like to know more about the radio you went for, I'm always keen to keep things looking period-appropr...

Could also be dry joints on the cluster itself, fortunately we have a thread for that: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=35684 Jeff, if you could post the photo of the cable/connector in the cluster repair thread for reference purposes as well I would be much obliged - I did mean to put one there myself when I w...

Re: Headlamp electric motor

The only other wiring schemes on the main site that include the headlights are on page 54 of this document , and they have the same pinout for the motors (pins 30 and 30a on the relay feeding Gn-y and Gn, pin 2 on each motor). The supplemental diagrams for '92 onward make no mention of the headlight...

Re: Volvo 480 powertest in Dutch magazine

That makes sense, so in other words the extra 9HP is probably due to the margin of error on the rolling road (and then some). Can't see the Dutch forum without logging in but it sounds like I called it correctly on the turbo gauge as well. I love the colour of your GT, and I see you have a turbo gau...

Re: Volvo 480 powertest in Dutch magazine

That's a strange car - GT badge on the tailgate, 2.0L engine under the bonnet with excess horses, turbo gauge on the dash. As far as I recall, their was a 'GT' on the continent that was nothing like the UK version, in other words, standard leather interior, standard springs, lots of colours rather t...

Re: Headlamp electric motor

Pages 50 and 51 in this document show the diagram for the headlight control circuit and the pinout for the connector. Based on that you could make up some test leads for the motor and/or get a meter on the connector on the car side to verify that voltage is present if that's causing suspicion as wel...

Re: Dendy's 480 Diary

I've been travelling so not much time spend on cars (or the internet), but here are a few pictures from my phone. More interior shots will follow in due course! Remnants of Happy Meals past under the front seats, including an un-opened sachet of salt shoved under the handbrake for emergency sodium w...
