Re: Rear Torque rods

what are option for the rear trailing part? , the one that goes up to the rear of the car (at bumper)

I know Fraser had some GUCCI ones, but for us lesser mortals with a 'standard' car... (other than SKANDIX)

I think if the ECU doesn’t get the right signal, it just assumes a single safe value. The only two signals that it can’t compensate for are the crank sensor and map sensor.
I'd agree if 'nowt' but if the resistances are 'about right' / 'within tolerance' then it would screw the ECU even further?

Re: Recommissioning a 480: 9. Final Bits

Hi James The PM I sent seems to be stuck in the Outbox at the moment. Maybe it only shows as Sent once you read it? Will keep checking it. Meanwhile the car today developed a bad misfire. It starts easily and the tickover comes down as it warms up. While the engine is cold it even pulls fairly well...

Fietsaapje (which is Dutch for bicycle monkey :D), I am living in Houten, just 10 km from your place and I have both profound knowledge of the 480's electronics and a large stock of spare parts. Orlando lives just 40 km further if there's need for more spares. You are cordially invited to take your...

Re: Electric window winder

My mechanic uses an off site MOT station so I haven’t seen the paperwork yet, I understand that it was deemed as “safety critical” as it wouldn’t go down but if it had gone in already down it would have passed. I is the drivers side that has gone, am I correct in thinking that the OEM quoted for my...

which section have they failed it on, specifically is it section 3.1? as I thought it only had to be 'clear, clean and safety glass or safety glazing' Sorry i don't know where to source a replacement although they do pop up on E-bay from time to time, need also to make sure which side as they are 'h...

Re: Wanted: Rear tail lights and rear crashbar

Potential quick fix for the bumper - just bolt it back on minus the bar for now. I realise that the current garage might take issue with that, but nothing stopping you taking it somewhere else for the MOT. is there anything that states there must be steel 'within'? the SS1 is (& was always) just In...

Re: The Bean Counter theory

IMO The 480 is a shitty built Volvo. The 460 was much nicer inside for a 400 series. Think about that for a moment. ah yes I think this is the point of this thread ;-0 The first 480 (E reg) I had was well built and (aside from the dash surround) was pretty decent cf similar vintage, carpet vs fuzzy...

Re: The Bean Counter theory

A question regarding the phasing out of "overtaking wipers" My '91 ES had this from factory, which i believe takes the signal to switch to constant from the oem throttle position sensor reading 100% and telling the CEM *bonkers* but anwyay, because I'm a heathen and use standalone management on my ...

Re: Gear linkage / leakage

the 'wobble' you describe sounds familiar, and wear on that bearing seemed to be the root cause of the issue. If I recall correctly the oil would dribble out at this point and pool on the wishbone, gradually destroying my bushes :D I'd accept the dribble, it means that the sub-frame won't rust

Re: Gear linkage / leakage

Thanks

I'll have another look but from memory it doesn't look as if there is any chamfered section, just square to the drive shaft.

I'll maybe try and get a photo from above to save putting back on ramps

also the boot can 'wobble' around on the shaft/bearing which i didn't think felt 'correct'

Re: Gear linkage / leakage

Jeff good man for photos how the heck can that let oil leak out, I thought it was a 'piston fit' into the housing, not a 'face seal' I'm pretty sure the three bolts are tight! I wonder if that is the lip seal on the shaft is missing on mine as I can see a metal section, (i think it's metal) and it r...

Re: Gear linkage / leakage

Not sure if this is entirely relevant, as it sounds as though your leak is where boot meets diff, Good luck, hopefully it's just the boot seal. As you say, gear oil leak is a real pain - plus it stinks! well I can cope with the 'dribble' from the shaft (I think) I don't mind engine oil leaks as it ...

Re: Gear linkage / leakage

Hi Alan, Sorry to hear about your oil leakage woes. The problem with using a press pulling the tripode is you have 3ft of shaft to accommodate downwards - no good for my bench press. You need a tower press with legs. I have used a three-leg puller in the past, but BOY it's tight. http://www.jaykaye...

Re: Headlight won't go down

Yesterday I took my day light running bulb out to change it and mistakenly put my headlights down as I drove to the shop to buy another, so the headlight only half went down as it didn't have a fully circuit without the bulb (made it a real ballache to get the screw out to get the headlight cluster...

Re: Gear linkage / leakage

The boot is easily obtained from evil bay. However.... does the inner tripod easily pull off, (after circlip removed) and how does the bellows go back over the bearing/shaft? Absolutely not! Job for a press I'm afraid! ( maybe you could improvise with a vice and drifts, but I had a press so used it...
