Re: Battery Charging

Thanks jifflemon, the RAC chap connected a couple of black boxes to the car and spent a few minutes letting everything warm up & settle down. He showed me the readings - 11.6 for the alternator output - was good enough for me. No point it messing about, I thought, find a replacement. Change things I...

Re: Battery Charging

Thanks James.
I've booked an appointment, for tomorrow morning, with a local reconditioner.
If he's too expensive, I could be sending a parcel to Southampton.

Re: Battery Charging

Update Went Lidling yesterday and car wouldn't start after leaving Lidl. Flattened the battery so called out the RAC. The engineer did his checks and showed me that the alternator was only pushing out 11.6 volts. So now I'm looking for a new/recond. alternator. Anybody any ideas/recommendations/spar...

Re: Engine Electrics

Greetings All, Car back from garage. Failed MOT (lights - warning & mains) but the run home brought a big grin; the car runs so sweetly: thanks Robou! Robou sourced replacements for the bits that had gone missing and sent them with the modified ecu. The parcel arrived intact with no signs of interfe...

Re: Engine Electrics

Apologies for net getting back to you,Norm57 - I've been a bit distracted. Update: ignition bits posted to Robou for inspection & modification. However, Robou reports that the parcel arrived damaged and re-packed but both amplifiers (old & new) and the coil were missing! Hey ho, further back than I ...

Re: Engine Electrics

Just called Lakes but nobody picked up the phone.
So, next step - has anybody got a spare, red-labelled ECU, P/No. (Bosch) 0 227 400 194; alternative no. 454441; for sale / loan?
Thanks.

Re: Engine Electrics

Thanks James, however, did you read my comment about my relationship with electronics? A real case of 'information over-load' for me! You are correct - my ECU has a red label and I shall be contacting Roubou regarding his modifications forthwith. I shall, also, be calling Lakes. Have a good weekend,...

Re: Engine Electrics

Update
Item P/No. (Bosch) 0 227 400 194, the ECS deemed U/S.
Not sending pulse (signal?) to the amplifier (which triggers the coil - if I understand correctly).
So now looking for a replacement item or somebody who can effect a repair - wish me luck.

Re: Engine Electrics

Thanks for the offer, jifflemon - may take you up on it. I'm also surprised it's taken them so long but there's not a lot I can do about it. Mechanicals - I'm ok. However, my knowledge & understanding of electrical circuits is just a bit better than that of a ten, sorry, five, year old. And the only...

Re: Engine Electrics

Thanks for all the information and suggestions. However, my car has been in the garage for five weeks and the progress - NIL. They appear to be using a softly-softly approach to changing all the ignition parts. I’d like to try something different. Is there anybody who is willing to test the componen...

Re: Engine Electrics

Update
Trawled through e-bay. P/No. results NIL.
Coil results - many but with technical wordage added, e.g. 3amp ballast.
Reading Roubou's comment leads me to think that any 12v coil could be used with the amplifier.
Any comments?

Re: Engine Electrics

The saga continues.
The 'amplifier'(for the coil) didn't work so now the garage want a coil.
The Parts Catalogue says P/No.3460220-1 - does anybody disagree?
Here we go to e-bay, once more!

Re: Engine Electrics

Update.
Ref. my post of the 16thSEP.
... problem narrowed down to ' amplifier for the coil pack'.
Has anybody got a spare one for sale?
Still looking for this 'amplifier'.
New: electrician added: 4-pin type required.

Mosseldag

Next weekend is a celebration of the very tasty mollusc in Yerseke, Zeeland in the Netherlands. 300 mile round trip from Calais or 150 mile round trip from The Hook. On Sunday (maybe Friday & Saturday, too - check the website) - eat a free punnet (or two), of freshly-cooked mussels then enjoy a trip...

Re: Engine Electrics

Update.
Latest from garage reckons problem narrowed down to ' amplifier for the coil pack'.
I can't find that term in the Parts book, although there are a couple of 'control units' in the ignition circuit.
Does 'ampli...' mean anything to anybody?
Has anybody got a spare one for sale?
