surely this is just the same as those mod chips you get on ebay that give you more power by fooling the engine temp sensor?? would it be better to simply get the injectors to pulse open longer? or, the other idea bbf suggests is actually quite feasible by using a MAP sensor so that when the pressur...

Have you found the diagnostic box on the n/s/f shock in the engine bay? Not sure if they all have them. Little black box with a test lead. You can find all the fault codes at http://www.troublecodes.net/Volvo/ pol Thanks for the codes, I am sure that will be usefull in the future. Since I got the c...

The other thing to check is that you don't have two different wattage bulbs in the same type of lamps.

I you have one 4W and one 5W in the rear sides, then that will put the failure lamp on. Even one new and one old bulb does this sometimes.

.....except how to make cars idle smoothly and not leak!! Ok the 240 didn't often idle smoothly (at least the injection version didn't), but they don't leak. The 245 on the other hand... Those used to leak on the tailgate hinges, and the sunroof (if fitted). It's the same sunroof as fitted to the s...

It's an add on fuel injection computer, much like the Bosch unit used as standard on the 480. The diff is that this one is programmeable by the user. It's also cheap as you build it yourself from a kit. I get the feeling that it will be a bit hard to tune without a dyno, though the manual talks of s...

Re: moreturbo boost

is there any way you can turn the boost up on the turbo? dont no much about the 480 but on cossies you have to have a -31 actuator or a boost control! do we need one of these? or can the actuator be adjusted so i can have more boost cheers You can fit a manual boost control, that will increase the ...

Thanks for the reply. I was after the block, as most of the internals will need to be replaced to allow the engine to produce more power. I don't know if the 2.0 head will fit with the turbo manifold, but if it will then I may well be interested in that. If you have the manifolds, then you would be ...

and copyright the idea    Sorry, this tickled me this morning.... nice one! :D I don't think it has been done before, but I may be wrong. If it hasn't then I can prove it now. The basic idea is this.... Use a hydralic pump mounted on the engine somwhere. These are small and can mo...

Wanted: Engine (or bottom half) for 94 Turbo

Wanted as above. Need not be in tip top condition (bearings etc), but no broken parts (con rods etc) Maybe the gearbox as well. The reason for this is that I intend to build up a 'better' engine, hopefully to get some more power. IT's also likely that I will blow up the current engine at some point ...

Define expensive for aftermarket kit - I don't think the MegaSquirt engine management system is expensive for less than £100 for the kit and offers soooo much functionality than any ECU hack IMHO... No it isn't expencive if it is only 100 ukp. From what I have seen of it, its an add on fuel comput...

The fuel cut defencer is quite interesting . Someone who is really good with electronics may be able to delve a bit deeper . No problem there, it's a basic op-amp setup. There isn't much to say about it, other than it will work. Doesn't the 480 have an air mass meter? If so then doesn't this and th...

Nice Richard, keep us posted! :) At this time, do you have any idea what it's going to cost, and what the performance gain will be? The perfomance gain and cost are both linked. The more performance the more cost. There are also some major drivability gains to be had, like a flat torque curve (by m...

Space, they tend to be large compared to a turbo, with limited places you can fit them (to get drive belts to line up). Well, I guess that makes it impossible to build a supercharged 480? Space is something we don't have... Nothing is impossible. It just needs more thinking about. More clever engin...

Ok, what's the difference between a turbo and a supercharger? I thought they were almost similar, just that the supercharger is more powerful... :? A supercharger is a pump driven by the engine, it's often a positive displaccement type (though turbine compressor types are getting more common) Advan...

[quote="dragonPlease could you explain exactly why this is "best" or indeed any better than anything else?[/quote] Recirc dump valves tend to be made to do a job, and that's it. They also act slightly faster, due to the lower pressure in the intake tube, as opposed to under the bonnet. To air dump v...

Don't some of the aftermarket re-circ ones make noise too? Sure I read that somewhere. Bit of both if you like (re-circ / bov). ?? pol Yes there are some. There are even things that make the wooosh sound that don't need a turbo. They work on the manifold vaccum, and it's just a piston, spring and s...

Yeah, that is strange! Suppose as bes said, it's important if it's losing coolant or not. When it happens, does the car run poorly like before you re-built the engine. Sounds like the same problem to me. I remember thinking it was the thermostat opening and flooding somewhere it shouldn't. Does it ...
