Re: Blue ES on eBay

There's been a surge of good 480's making strong money.... which is starting to bring a lot of projects out of barns. but I can not imagine a 480 ever reaching Capri price level, which I am happy about, for me the 480 symbolises the fact that you don't need to fork out megabucks for a great car, I ...

Reversed speedo wires?

Does anybody know why the wire on the speedo system seems to switch over on each side of plug? I was trying Brinkie's advice on the speedo fix, but stopped short of soldering directly due to this confusion, can anybody help?

Re: Blue ES on eBay

Would like to take a look but too far away before auction ends. Wish I had enquired about the E reg ES barn find in silver. Sold now but at least it's being restored. I was going to go view that one, a stones throw from me, but it was gone when I messaged the seller - it was in the colour I always ...

You're looking at the pop-up light side covers.

To contrast, this car has the more common black ones:

Early cars had their headlamp covers painted as standard from the factory. I think one colour got painted covers throughout production... Maybe white but I'm not 100%
Where am I looking for this?

Re: Launch car Found!

I agree about the mirrors but unfortunately the driver's side one got hit recently on a narrow road and he only‎ had later ones spare. I think he plans to get the original style back on. I also agree on the plates. It is difficult to get the old font but is doable if you order them ‎Platesforcars.c...

Re: Launch car Found!

That looks very smart, not sure about the choice of number-plate style though, I suppose it is impossible to find the right ones now. either way though, that is a very slick restoration, I will have to keep an eye out next time I am in Southampton! A Very nice Job!

uncomfortable gear change when oil is warm

when driving the car it has been observed that the gearbox has difficulty selecting gear when the oil is warm, it is worse when changing down, but still jerks a bit when going up. it also slips out of gear every now and then.
could this be a syncromesh issue?

any help would be greatly obliged
thanks

Re: Useful to anyone?

If it comes from a scrap car, you'll need to provide the exact VIN or at least the model year, because the fuse box underwent a number of changes. If if is in your car, I would keep it. It should be glued to the lid, but the one in my car has come loose, too. This is In my car, it is fastened to th...

Re: 1988 Volvo 480 ES - A New Era Dawns

Cruise would have been an option (and a now, very desirable option to have!). Deffo a phone kit; if you like I’ve a classic period Nokia car kit available (it came out of mine!) Thak you jifflemon, I would like to do that at some stage, but right now the priorities are to get the bodywork, s...

Re: 1988 Volvo 480 ES - A New Era Dawns

Yep - that answers the aerial and bracket questions. All early 480s had the cruise light there although it was only ever a rare option. It disappeared after 2 or 3 years anyway to be replaced by an old catalytic converter symbol, even before the cars had them. David thanks for clearing that up, got...

looking at the dash, there is a small light labelled "cruise" https://i.postimg.cc/7hxhr609/IMG-3159.jpg did all cars have this or just the ones with cruise control? while on the subject of extras, there is what looks like brackets for a car phone at one point https://i.postimg.cc/cCXHxScS/IMG-3160....

Useful to anyone?

Found this diagram in the fuse box next to the steering wheel the other week. No idea how rare it is, but just thought there may be someone somewhere to whom this is a lifesaver.

Re: 1988 Volvo 480 ES - A New Era Dawns

That looks like an old car-phone aerial to me... Are there any signs of one having been mounted in the car at some stage? I think the genuine Volvo ones were mounted on the left side of the dashboard but a likely place would also be the left hand side of the lower centre console. Any screw holes an...

Re: 1988 Volvo 480 ES - A New Era Dawns

Having examined the engine today, and following jamescarruthers' advice, I had a look at the throttle bodies, they are the ovoid shape with apparently means I have a B18E engine, good news as that was the engine I was after! https://i.postimg.cc/m2XvsLT7/IMG-3103.jpg a few other enigmas with the car...
