Re: May 23rd Virtual Mini Meet

Late to the Party I know, but I did actually give the car a wash today as it had been needing, and also attempted to fix the screen on the radio that dcwalker kindly sourced for me. Would anyone know A: how to get the volume knob off, B: why the radio screen would be blank, as the radio and cassett...

Re: Lights clusters

Rear lights look good on this one, but also looks too good to break. Mind, after the one we went to see, it could all be very deceptive. Anyone in the area ? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/184299573595?ul_noapp=true Alton isn't far from me (well same county), if anyone desperately wants an inspection I...

Re: Couple of electrical problems

Maybe its time to replace the fuses? The pop ups I have fixed were to do with the relay needing some WD, but this is very odd how the whole car is 'dead'. I don't know if the car has something like this, but is there a sensor to tell if the ignition is on, thereby telling the car to fire up the inst...

Aye, but I wouldn't be shelling out £850 for one of those

Best case is someone falls in love with the thing and wrings a deal out of the erm, dealer.

Save the wedgie!

I did see it from Facebook I think, makes mine look like a peach.
At least the lights look in good condition, about the best thing it has going for it.
Could make a good parts car for about £500 less...

Near me, could have gone for a look for someone if necessary, if lock-down was clearer :?

Would you have a rear windscreen washer nozzle on offer?

And I know its slim, but a digital clock as well?

Re: 1988 Volvo 480 ES - A New Era Dawns: One year on

I checked the coolant and oil the other week and all checked out fine. For the next lot of journeys I will check the heat, though when it happened a few weeks ago, I think it was before the fuse box was fixed so I could have had my foot a bit on the brake as the box was on my ankle...

Re: 1988 Volvo 480 ES - A New Era Dawns: One year on

Thanks for all the advice James The car brakes in a straight line fine and I don't feel any pull at all. Now you mention the coolant, I believe we changed it during its first winter out with antifreeze, so It could probably be due another change anyway. The car is certainly running the best it ever ...

Re: 1988 Volvo 480 ES - A New Era Dawns: One year on

Thanks James, that's really helpful I have taken to giving it a brief blast every evening on the empty B-Road, my father teaching me how to get the most out of the engine. I think the plan is to travel as light as we can, as I have already made it clear that there is not much space in the car, but I...

Re: 1988 Volvo 480 ES - A New Era Dawns: One year on

Finally made a fix for the flapping dashboard that didn't require copious amounts of tape! https://i.postimg.cc/3JnCw2PM/IMG-4672.jpg By using plasticard to rebuild the bracket, it is now much more quiet and secure. It feels more like a modern car with every fix! Still want that crossover? Also, Whe...

Re: Famous 480 owners?

Well blow me down !! The Brookside car has another claim to fame - if he's still got it, it belongs to long-time forum member Ade. Lots of threads on here about the engine swapping he was doing, and we've seen the car on several meets. He hasn't been on here for the last few years, last I heard he'...

Re: Famous 480 owners?

I happened on these three pages of 480s in film and TV. Someone has been almost as obsessive as me gathering this lot! Went to add the 'Brookside' Turbo (page 3) to the list, Jeff, but you'd beat me to it from seeing it on Facebook! Haha. None of the other UK readable ones show anything. https://ww...

Famous 480 owners?

Afternoon all I was wondering the other day if there were any famous owners or endorsers of the Volvo 480, having recently got a book full of 480 road tests and related journalistic materials, I was wondering if anyone famous used, owned or endorsed the model, it seemed to get quite favourable press...

Re: Fuel Inst?

MPG is dreadful when a car is first started and cold, you will need to track it as it warms to see if the reading is realistic. It does shoot up and down though, which is why we also have the average. Is that showing something near sensible ? Yes I think so, Ill have a check when I am out on todays ...

Re: Fuel Inst?

It does indeed mean instant - it's your mpg at that precise moment - you can see it changing dramatically when you change gear or go up or down hill. The average is calculated over the previous 10 miles, and the mileage remaining in the tank is based on that remaining constant. Ok thanks for that S...

'Evening all Just a quick one, what is Fuel Inst on the Info Centre? Everything works on it, and gives a readout except for the last option on the left. Please don’t let me put you off ordering! I positively welcome competition! Heck, if they’re good and cheaper than I could do, then it’s one less thing for me to worry about. Cool, I'll have a think.
