Re: Info Centre

Yes it is a dashboard out job I'm afraid, though in some cars that is an easy job; the Paris Blue has only 2 screws left in the dashboard, the rest has been broken off :( You could try and swap the info centre dial, they are electrically the same throughout the entire production, only the display it...

Re: Back from trip

Cheers mate, that's model year 1993, so the latest version of the relay box applies.

The relay marked "D" in the top right hand corner of the picture should control the auxiliary water pump.

Re: Info Centre Repair.

Excellent repair manual!!! In fact, most of this is what happens if you sent an instrument cluster on a holiday overseas. For soldering, please folks, use a small soldering iron! In fact, I sometimes use a battery powered soldering iron, bought at Lidl for a tenner, and it works great! Also us...

Re: Info Centre

I was somewhere where the wine flowed freely and my wife agreed to drive the big Volvo (she doesn't drink and it is her car after all!) so I was not really capable of giving proper answers yesterday  ( Be careful who you summon anyway ) Info centre issues can be a real pain. My dad is dr...

The relay setup seemed to have changed almost every model year up to 1993... What model year is yours (or better: the last 6 digits of the chassis number)?

Re: Air Con re-gassing / lack of compressor activity

Don't mess with it yourself and take your car to an aircon specialist. Even the fastfitters can do the job, I have seen prices as cheap as 48 pounds for a/c service. What they do is connect your car to specialized equipment, that will first drain your system, measure the amount of R134a gas that is ...

Funny, that's a Dutch label. Would certainly be appreciated by a Dutch car

There is a Facebook group called "Volvo 480", you should try your luck there.

(by any chance, has your forum nickname been inspired by a Terry Pratchett character? :))

Congrats on the quick sale mate! And you've done a great job saving this car from oblivion. Hope its new owner will finish what you started. Best of luck with the old English cars, they surely have their charm (and their fair share of quirks, especially with Lucas electrics :P)

Re: info center switch?

Following up the questions in the private message you've sent me... The info centre switch is very rarely at fault. When it fails, it just won't allow you to switch between the functions on the info centre dial in your instrument cluster. Without the switch connected, it will show fuel range in mile...

Re: Rotary Headlight Switch illumination

There is a single 1.2W T5 bulb illuminating the fog lights/rear window heater switches and the rotary light switch. The light is guided through perspex guides, if they are missing or misaligned then the switches won't be illuminated. Usually the light in the rotary switch is faint. Is the light work...

Re: City light not working correctly.

Hi Benjamin, welcome, where are you from? It depends on the fitting of the front lights how the behaviour should be. Some cars have only standing lights (5W single filament), many have Daytime Running Lights (DRL) and standing lights (21/4W dual filament). Standing lights only fitted: 0 = all off, 1...

Sounds like a power loss issue. You could try and clean the connectors, but I would check your battery first.

Has this behaviour changed only recently, or is this something that was already going on when you bought the car?

Re: Day running lights

That's really interesting, my info came from the mechanic who looks after our 480's, and used to work at a Volvo Main Dealer when they were current. I'm wondering if the cars here in the UK might be different ? We've had the same lack of pop-ups on 3 of our 480s in the past. Number 4 hasn't been wi...
