Re: gremlin

Whoa, 16.6V is way too high! It should not exceed 15V even under high revs without load. I think you have a problem with the voltage regulator. The Bosch alternator has voltage regulator 1197311008, e.g. for sale new for 16,95 ex. shipping . Paris-Rhône/Valeo either YH2925, YV1925 or YM1601. YV1925 ...

Re: Speedo sensor desperately wanted. MOT coming up

Are you SURE it's the speedo sensor? Most of the speedo problems are caused by faulty connections on the instrument cluster PCB. Proper soldering of the connector pins usually does the trick. Well, the seller's name implies he's a real... I've recently extracted such a digital clock from a 480 I was breaking, gave it away to a long-time friend who happened to have moved to Switzerland and got himself a 480 (and subsequently a load of of electrical gremlins which I needed to rectif...

Re: Wanted Front Light Cluster

They do slot in if you buy the correct BAZ15d fitting, but please stay away from cheap Chinese rubbish. I've bought a set of LED lamps on eBay for $27 and after a year they are showing erratic behaviour, especially at low revs when the voltage is dropping a bit. Apparently the soldering of the LED c...

Re: Advice on buying a 480?

The body condition of that 480 is near perfect (it has been featured in a youngtimer magazine). The car started out as a 400 Euro project car, somebody put an info centre in and some new light clusters, after which it changed hands a couple of times. The mileage is genuine, but the price is ridiculo...

Re: Advice on buying a 480?

Carl, I would try and find out who the friendly "local" 480 owners are, and let him or her tell all about the quirks and benefits of driving a 480 and see for yourself what a decent 480 looks like and drives. I still regret I didn't do that before buying mine, otherwise I might have gone for a Turbo...

Re: Adjust voltmeter

A fuse. The actual fuse depends on model year, there are three different fusebox layouts if I recall correctly.

Re: Adjust voltmeter

I would try and measure the battery voltage first with a digital multimeter, just in case the voltage gauge was right after all...

If you want to calibrate the lower end of the range without a variable power supply, use a 9V battery.

Re: Adjust voltmeter

You can adjust the voltmeter with the potentiometer on top of the meter and by moving the needle itself. You need to open up the unit in order to reach it. http://i1308.photobucket.com/albums/s613/volvo480gt/Technische%20documentatie/Schemavoltmeter-oliedrukmeter_zpsd2747613.png But the accuracy is ...

It's a 1990 in 218, light blue. I have been looking at the possibility of buying a complete car that has issues but an intact front. Anyone have a problem 480 they want rid of?! Bummer! :( What colour and model year is your 480 Turbo? I know a guy in The Netherlands who is more or less clearing out his 480 parts business (being bugged too much by the authorities and the tax collector) and he has got virtually everything, chances are he has the correct colour nose cone, bonn...

According to howmanyleft.co.uk there were exactly 480 480's left recently... in NL ove...

Re: Advice on buying a 480?

Depends on how the car has been used, or rather said, stored the past 20 or so years. If the car has been outside all year long and the seller lives near the sea: run, don't walk. My Paris Blue 480 ES had only 154,500 km (96,000 miles) on the clock, confirmed by extensive service history. The first ...

Re: Someone with a B18FT without powersteering and AC?

Elferink in the Netherlands has two: http://www.elferink.nl/Volvo/4-Serie/Stuurhuis "Stuurhuis" = steering rack; powered = "Bekrachtigd" and they have a separate section: http://www.elferink.nl/Volvo/4-Serie/Stuurhuis_Bekrachtigd so you can be pretty sure the others aren't. There are lots of 440 on ...

Re: 480 Newbie

Cheers! Well, I have had only previous experience with German and French cars, both new and 30+ years old. French cars, the newer, the more troublesome. I was quite happy that the new Peugeots I drove (307, 206, 308) were company cars, so I didn't have to pick up the hefty repair bills. My ex girlfr...
