Re: My Old Turbo (L904 FCW)

It is all a matter of how badly you want this particular car back on the road, or is it just that you want to drive a 480 again? Then you should take the unobtainium bits off. get a better car (with possible niggles and rust) and bring what's left to the scrapheap, because this one is really far gon...

If the pinout matches, sure, why not. You only have to be sure the relay can cope with the current.

Re: CEM Mark 1 Pinout

The big ones I have yet to find out where they can be bought separately, the small ones are available for a few quid each through sellers like Conrad. I think I know what the small strip of metal does which you have pointed out: it is probably a current measuring resistor for the flasher. If the fla...

Re: Oil on speed sensor

Very good, this is exactly how I bench test the speedometers! (I do have to cope with the same mess, though ) Actually, there is very helpful information on the speedometer print itself so you won't need the confusing information from HBOL. In technical terms, this is called a silkscreen ( see ...

Re: Bulbs for instruments

The T5 bulbs are the small wedge bulbs that light up: - the light switch/fog-light switch pack; - the heater controls (2) - the heated seat/long-range lights switch symbols - the ignition switch - the ashtray/cigarette lighter That accounts for 6, and Robert says there are 7 - I certainly don't wan...

Re: Bulbs for instruments

I have never had to replace a bulb inside the ventilation switch, but it is the same kind as found in car radios. Indeed soldered with thin wires.

Re: Bulbs for instruments

A bit late response to this topic... The warning bulbs in the instrument cluster rarely burn out, except for the "lights on" (green light bulb symbol) and maybe the oil pressure (oil can) and charging (battery) warning lamps, but I rarely change them, only if they really look black. Both analogue an...

It was a bit scary, because I found out the struts were comin...

I should have gone there, it was only 40 miles from the ferry! Though I would have had a discussion at home because the ferry costs € 500 :(

Re: CEM Mark 1 Pinout

Though I have a MY 1995 480 with a CEM-III, I have a friend with a MY 1989 480 ES who is equally keen with electronics as I am, and he has more or less reverse engineered the CEM-01 pinout and put it in a Google doc we are both maintaining. Very handy, where there's an internet connection, I have al...

...and another thing to consider: if the passenger light is coming up and then going down again (in other words the motor is doing a full 360 degree rotation), then it's possible that the position switches inside the motor have given up, in which case the relay isn't the problem (I have recent pers...

Of course these have long been discontinued. People lost them everywhere, in the car wash, at Volvo 480 meetings... (sad but true)
Mine has been sitting for over a year at a guy who promised to make a 3D scan so we can make 3D prints out of it. I will check out once more if he has made any progress.

I believe it was only in Germany and France (perhaps Belgium) that the 480 Two Tone was available with Turbo engine. Colloquially they are called 480 TTT

Re: ES TT on the 'bay - Genuine Gem or delusions of grandeur?

A bit high, but not far off the money in my opinion - should it match up to the pictures and description (especially underneath)! If those Pirelli P6000 are new then that's c.£500+ already. They are definitely not new, Pirelli P6000 tyres have been discontinued long ago. I remember my 2008 Ford Foc...
