Alternator housing wire (blue-brown)

2 small Blue-brown wires are connected to the alternator's housing. 1 Goes together with a blue-white wire from the cabin to a connector that's not being used behind the front left mist light. Another one goes to somewhere inside the cabin. What's the use of these blue-brown wires? (This is a Volvo ...

Fuel hose size

What's the inner and outerdiameter of the fuel hose going to the fuel filter on a B20F engine?
I'm trying to figure out what AN fitting I should choose for a new filter...

Finding space for it can't be a problem when designing a car from scratch, can it?

If the problem is noise, a condenser could be added. It will absorb the spikes. If the resistance of a bulb would stay the same, a rise from 12v to 14v (16%), will cause the rating to up with 35%. I did a small test and fiound that it actually raises by about 25%, because of the increased resistance...

I don't want brighter lights. My goal is to feed the lights directly from the alternator and use mosfets to switch them on. That's cool, saves energy and reduces magnetic fields.

The headlights in the volvo 400 series (and probably all brands) only get 12V even as the alternator produces 13,8 to 14,4V, it's caused by the resistance of the internal wiring, combined with the high amps flowing.

Putting 14V on a 55W halogen light will make it consume at least 70watt.

14V Headlights?

Are there headlights on the market that can take 14volt constantly?

these cars come with a standardized cabletree. Premade to hook up optional parts later on. Like airco, frontlight wipers, electric windows..

the socket near the windscreen ist just the result of using 1 plastic mold for all of their ignition coils. there is no actual electronic in it for those pins.

which wire is for ECU standby

I am going to build in a switch to cut power from the car right at where the 2 big red wires come from the engineroom into the interior. Where does the ECU gets its power from to maintain its "memory"? Does it get current via those main red wires? Is it dangerous to give the ecu 12v for its standby ...

When the time is right I will read your info's again and (try to) fix the handbrake, for now there are other priorities :) I hoped it was only something with the lever (yeah shortsighted I know  ).

uhm, sorry for my late reaction. Thanks for your answers. The lever starts pulling the cable after 1 cm lifting it (absolutely no force required), then it moves stiff regularly throughout the range. I will do some research into those brake cables. Is is harmfull to the gearbox that I regularly put i...

can handbrake lever be made smoother?

the handbrake lever requires quite much force, I don't know if this is normal or wear, anyway can I make this go smoother? I have back problems, so it's hard to put the hb on. I wish it could be like the v40 handbrake :D

Hmm I feel a bit stupid now: I just found that the wire going to the engine temp sensor is damaged. I'm new to this kind of work, I never paid attention to this "earthing wire", because it looked like 1 bare wire. Now I see that this wire actually used to have a plastic tube around it but that had s...

Okay, I connected 12V and earth to the ignition module/coil, but it doesn't start.
So next thing to try is the flywheel sensor.

Hmm, I just tried to see if the rev counter moves a bit while cranking, but it actually doesn't. I looked very securely and it really doesn't move at all.
Could a dead flywheelsensor be the reason why there is no voltage for the ignition coil or should it always getting voltage?

Thanks, I will try those things tomorrow.
How do you mean relay that controls power to the coil/injectors? The Haynes manual says the injectors are controlled by the fuel pump relay, but there are no referrings to the ignition coil circuits.

460 B20F no start

It will crank fine, but doesn't start. Dash light comes on okay and the fuel pump works. There's no spark, I checked the ignition coil power supply and it gets no volts. I thought maybe the last 10cm of the wire going to the coil is broken, but could it be because the problem didn't appear suddenly....
