I guess it's the same idea as with Magnecore - but i've heard many good things about Magnecore so I'd put my money there. The standard coils do the job nicely, being computer controlled ignition and all, but standard leads have issues. The contacts and construction of the lead is done to do a job, b...

To reply late to the XBox idea... XBox game ports are USB + 12v? for the rumble packs. Convertors are now readily available for a pittance or can be hacked together if you know how to solder. If you rip off the OS and dump Gentoox on instead, you have a very reasonable Linux machine that can run any...

Deff. keep the heat shield around the starter motor - thats one already dodgy component that doesn't need any more grief! I don't have a heat sheild on my cat, but I do remember reading an article about Cats when they were still new, and thoughts of a regulation forcing them to be shielded to preven...

This happened to my first altenator. The altenator is on it's way out. Either the voltage regulator is knackered, or one of the three coils in the altenator has lost the will to generate electricity. Could also be a knackered belt. The altenator will be turning away and producing nothing, battery dr...

Yup - I get the same - Greta idles around 950-1100 as she warms the engine up (usually for the first 5mins of the drive or the engine water temp stops reading "COLD") and guzzles 98RON like Ulrika Johnson downs pints, but then settles down to her standard levels of frugality... and enjoys the cold a...

Also worth checking the ABS sensor cables as they wonder through the car's wiring loom. At the front, follow the wire from the wheel hub to the bulkhead and on the engine side, you should find and IP67 rated 2 pin connector. Pull that apart and check it's clean, sealed properly, etc. At the rear, re...

Both Volvo's I've owned have sulked if I leave them alone for even two weeks. Refusing to start and being very rough with flat spots all over the place when I take them back out and run them once more. I've usually chaged the oil in this time and done lots of other nice things for them - but the gir...

Yup - the fixed headlights of the first were tried again for the Phase II project :rtfm: Interesting that from the design sketches on the club page, the Prius/CRX/C4 look a-likey hinted of Delorian and VW Scirocco - and made me think - hmm! But in the flesh - I'm very pleased things went the way the...

Greta scrapes her exhaust driving around Reading - and thats on standard suspension. Off road - you're all right. All though I've seen a Volvo 480 set up as a rally car. It was what sparked my boyhood love of the 80's wedge. Nothing for the money, in my humble opinion, beats a Volvo 340 for off-road...

Ah - the pressurised head light washers! I love em. They don't make a scrap of difference to the cleanliness of the head lights under normal life - but a Volvo just wouldn't be a Volvo without them. I do miss the headlamp /wipers/ from the 340 though. Why do I love this feature so? I shall explain -...

If you unscrew the four screws holding the glove box into the dashboard and then pull it out, you will be treated with access to the blower and its associated connectors. You are looking for the resistor pack that controls the variable speeds of the fan - if that's burnt out or the connection has go...

There are a few options available - a few are discussed and bandied around on this forum in other ICE posts. I ran my power cable through a hole by the battery into the LH wing skin. Removing the plastic wheel-arch protector allows you to poke this through until you reach the passenger door Pop a ho...
