Was it the R5 Turbo that had alloys they'd anodized so much the tyres would slip round the wheels under heavy braking?
Don't know where I heard that!?

The Volvo bulbs for the day-lights are 21/4W. And the standard pattern bulb for brake/side-lights which can sometimes be squeezed into the holders (cough) are 21/5W. As this pattern of bulb is a recognised standard (european - maybe international) - B09 I think - I would be suprised if bulbs with di...

Yeah - the kit has cold air from the hole for the original duct (but with a new, round pipe) fed into it. Piper-cross don't do a kit especially for the 480 - but do for Renault 19's etc which I think have the same throttle-housing dia. Has given my 2l a better mpg, a bit more shove, and a nicer roar...

Oh 4 fuks sake!!! There's a reason it's got no MOT... it has no locks or door handels present, so opening the doors is from inside. from the VOSA MOT guidlines... Doors Open and close. Latch securely in closed position. Front doors should open from inside and outside the vehicle. The fire-brigade wi...

I'm doing this in the summer. I have concerns about the light distribution of LEDs over filament bulbs in these direct replacement units (if you see modern cars with LEDs, they've got the LEDs distrubuted across the whole light array, not clustered up in the middle) But then, with the hella diffuser...

Does anyone know about where I can start looking in the parts-bins of other engines for Heron head pistons + head, turbo manifolds, etc. Obviously not from the 400 series. But what about the 360 2lt (B200K), or any renault/pugeot babies? I thought the B20 had dauphant chambers, not flat? so half the...

:? the 480 airbox is very good, Are you missing the air pipe from the box to the cold air? I gotta piper-cross induction kit in now - but before had all the pipe-work in place and still couldn't get ram-pressure on the motorway. Since fitting the induction kit, air is now fed to the engine, not suc...

Anyway, as with all volvo engines, the 480 "sulks" if you don't keep them moving! Gotta keep the cobwebs blown out!

You're '?' plug on your altenator seems to be the feed to the battery-warning light on the dash. The other be the cable for the altenator to charge the battery by the looks of it. If it was making a bad connection then the voltage running around the car will have been jumping around like a monkey - ...

<true> Webers would probably withstand a small nuclear strike and only require a twiddle of the mixture and idle valve to get them running again! This MAF sensor - only on turbos or does my 2l block have 1 too? I'm on a piper-cross induction kit and they say the foam needs cleaning more often than t...

Try running some rad-weld through the system. (about £5 for the stuff at halfords) If it's only a wee crack this will bodge-fix it for a while. When running it through, make sure the heater controls are on full heat to get plenty of water pressure through as this stuff works by hardening when it hi...

The Clio to 480 is quite a jump eh? Whenever Greta is off the road (often) I have to borrow my sister's '97 automatic Clio in order to get me around (which I appriciate). But I have no love for those vehicles: The Clio - it succesfully gets you from A-B and will often keep you dry and warm in the pr...

I clean mine off a little more often than that - every coupla months (about 3k in my life). They will clog up quicker than a paper filter, but then when all you need to do is pull it off the engine, wash it then re-oil it who cares? :) plenty of the oil spray stuff ensures the micro-filtration keeps...
