Ah, pain in the arse problem, but simple to explain. Any problems with the circuits for the front lights seem to trip the system for the pop-up motors in the 480. I had this a couple times, whilst it's non-scientific, I just played with bulbs/wiring looms until it fixed itself, thankfully not to ret...

LOL what twat offered a metro as swap, I'd rather chance being hit by a car myself than let the metro kill me by being in it when another car collides with it!

Go to Volvo with a 10 year old + car hmm.......Not a chance!!! I've paid for Volvo servicing @ £90 per hour +Vat on my S40 to keep the full dealer history in tact, frankly my experience of every dealer I've visited is generally friendly but useless. It extremely unlikely they will know any more a...

Everything was a factory option in any case. I'm pretty certain however even if it was a Turbo that this car would not be quicker than it's ES counterpart :hopping:

Well certainly things break on 480's, but it's rare that those things would be something that stops the car from being driven. You can drive a 480 with a knackered gearbox/clutch for months. The engines will keep going well beyond the overheating point for longer than you'd probably wish to risk goi...

Why all of a sudden are people panicing? It's a Volvo, the chances of a breakdown are frankly slim if it's been maintained well.

Only one light should work it was made that way so retards could not switch on both rear lights to mimic the brake lights and cause accidents. :D Now in fairness I've only ever done this to wankers who want to sit right up my arse, however with only one foglight it's easier to change to second and ...

A/C is availible on any model, but it would have to have been put in as an optional extra, so it's very rare to find them. Of course if you have the know-how if's possible to transplant the lot from a dead GT/Celeb or fit an aftermarket kit.

In addition to any check’s you’d usually carry out, these specific ones for a 480 may prove helpful: The Pop-up lights should move up and down as a pair, and with a smooth sounding motion only. If you can put your head near the lights whilst they are raised and lowed, doing this about ...

To be honest, Volvo were ahead of thier time in almost every area of design, in some ways this created all the problems the car suffers from. True enough the glass hatch is not the biggest of spaces to get stuff through, but then both the rear seats and the front seat will pull forward with the rear...

As mentioned above, just check the part #'s on the back of an existing centre cap, if this is a match, it'll be the same as what you have. Yes the Avior ones I bought to fit on my Taurus but they aren't quite right (a little small I believe), but they look much better than a big gap and four nuts (I...

To be fair, it took me three weeks to track down a correct 80a altenator for my 480, and it came from a 460 GLT instead. Frankly the cost you paid is what I was quoted myself, however I didn't need the car so waited until the part came up. It's expensive, but it's also what they cost.

I was never stranded by mine, but you will find yourself having to spend a considerable amount on parts/labour to keep them in good order. Again, aside from a dead battery, in over two years it always started without even hesitating. Prices are currently rock bottom, so no better time to buy. You'll...

LOL, my experiance of Fiat was like that so I got a 440!

Seriously though, this car needs a home, I really wanted to give it one, but to to cash flow problems was not able to. £100 is fecking cheap for a working car at any rate.

It's a weird thing, but I suppose for the European members it's worth having the car sprayed, as second hand they are still worth a few thousand Euro. But car's here go for £1,000 tops unless they are something special/bought by a muppet. To spend £1,000 on a 480 in the UK is hard to justify w...

Don't understand why 35mpg is bad on a 2ltr, depends on how you drive it 40mpg or close to that is achieveable on good runs at 60/70. 35mpg is certainly not bad for a 12 year old 2.0 engine in any regard, before you think your driving a sports car. A Turbo will only be worse for economy, especially ...

Just to note, a full-size spare will not fit where the space saver goes as it's too wide for starters. Also, you can get a space-saver wheel easier and cheaper second hand I'd imagine, given the number that have been scrapped.

I really don't know, it's not ridiculous, however I can get a full car done for £750-£800 here, but that's just a back street place, they do a good job I am told though.
