I think the diesel setup has to run some seperate electronics because they don't have a normal throttle body, its all controlled by the injectors or something, so you don't get a vaacum when you take the foot off the accelerator. The dump valve is the same you'd find on a petrol car thou :) Don't ta...

Found the problem to be a sticky idle control valve, was left out in the rain whilst i was stripping the car down, and it had 'furred' up inside, so just wd40'd it, and used a screwdriver to get the part moving inside, now its idling at a nice 900rpm :D

One less problem now :)

Cheers

Rev's hunting on turbo engine

Hello, I've just had to rebuild my engine again after having a minor problem which meant having to rebuild it (forgot to tighten the tensioner and the cambelt came loose) Anyways its all in and running, but the revs are 'hunting', it'll idle nicely for the first minute then it'll start hunting every...

ta very muchly :) will be fitting it today as the other one i had is fooked. Was causing it to run way too lean, so much so i was getting what sounded like backfiring thru the inlet side, which i have been informed is a sign of it running very lean. good job its not moved off my driveway since the p...

Inlet/Exhaust gasket

Just wondering if these are made of metal, or the paper type material, as i've just bought a brand new one and its metal, wondering whether or not this will seal properly as the last gasket i had on there didn't, mainly because it was damaged. Thinking they've given me the wrong one, meant for any r...

surely on a turbo it won't matter if its an open cone type, as the charged air goes through that huge volvo intercooler anyway.

I can understand it on N/A applications, where temps can really make a difference, but can't see it making a huge difference on a turbo.

Indeed mate, think i paid about £140 from the nearest Volvo Stealer.

Way I think of its got to be the most important part, and is definately worth paying for :)

Engine Age via Engine Number

Hi, time has come to get my car MOT'd, but due to the engine being older than the car I'd like to prove that and get the more 'relaxed' emissions testing, as I don't want to stick a catalytic converter on there. My car is a 1993 (the year they bought in the tougher restriction on emissions) but the ...

Random Idea but it could work, seeing as the B18 block is infact a Renault F type block so engine mounts wouldn't really be a problem, why not look into the 1.8 16v F7P (137bhp) renault engine, or even the 2 litre 16v F7R (150bhp). The 1.8 can be had very cheap, and the volvo gearbox will bolt to it...

the way I see it, its a public forum for all aspects of the volvo 480, which shares its engine with the 440 and 460, and funily(sp) enough you don't create a topic involving a debate on whether to get rid of the 440/460 people who are forum members. If you don't want the renault guys here (who do ha...

Another renault guy here... I came here looking for information on the engine I am using in my car, the car was being scrapped so I took advantage of having the 'innards' and putting them into my car, knowing that the volvo engine is infact a modified renault block. I really can't see why some peopl...

yea I personally would buy a metal bung for it, or get one made up on a lathe.

But as a quick fix it isn't a bad method of blocking the dump valve pipe

the broomstick 'bung' is a well known way of blocking up the dump valve pipe, obviously you make sure you don't have any loose bits of wood hanging onto it.

Another known method of blocking it, is a screwdriver handle, and a new one my mate has tried, a coke bottle lid lol

Clio speedo is sorted out by using a clio mechanical link gearbox, such as an RSi,16v/Williams or 1.9 Diesel gearbox.

Downpipe is usually sorted with a bit of modification, or get a custom one made up from using the flange on the original downpipe.

think the cossie intercooler is the easiest to fit in the cramped clio bay. Had an intercooler from a Mitsi Starion (or something like that) but it was too much of a bastard to fit, so gave up. Mind if i ask where you get the steel pipe from as I'm currently looking for some, and am struggling to fi...

Am after an alternator for a 480 turbo, am sure they all fit the same, cheaper the better really aslong as it works, mines decided to do the opposite and drain the battery and get extremely hot (guessing the regulator has decided to pop its cloggs). If you can let me know prices etc, then that would...

Quick Question.. Alternator

Quick question, im sure one of you on here will know. Just wondering if there are different alternators for the b18ft, or did they just use the same. Ive been offered an alternator from an unknown 440 model and just wondered if they are all the same. Also would it matter if its come from an AC equip...
